Right time to sell my missus's mk2 golf gti 8v , she's had this since march last year but recently decided she wants something newer so this has to go in the next week or it will be broken Make: vw Model: golf gti 8v Year/Reg: 1991 (j) Mileage:170k (ish) will check asap MOT: oct 2013 Tax: march 2013 Good points : good interior , s/s exhaust , tidy alloys , lowered , mfa works , sunroof , electric windows (front) bad points : cat d? This still here? When you say no heat from heaters, is there a thermostat fitted, or has it suddenly stopped for some reason?

The heater matrix is prone to scaling up in Mk2 Golfs and the heater bypass valve can fail on them too. I replaced one on my wife's old Golf with a Mk4 heater matrix. Its a fiddly job because you have to do it hanging upside down in the passenger's footwell and most of the dash has to come out but its not overly technical. It took me about 4 hours to do (in sub-zero January temperatures) and most of that was spent faffing around trying to remove the old matrix and fit the new one in the correct place.

Hi i'll try to get some pics of the damage tonight , the heaters were very poor for a while then just as the cold weather arrives they decided to provide no heat at all , not sure whats wrong not looked at it

A couple of people have asked for pictures of the damage so you can just about see the damage to the bumper in that one ^ sorry about the pic quality And its got 174 thou on the clock also the batteries flat and the mfa has stopped working along with the rev counter so assume its a loose connection ? thanks

when the mfa and rev counter stops working, disconnect the batt for about half hour. they get the hump when the battery goes flat. it hasnt got a loose connection.

I'd put money on the heater problem being down to the bypass valves being blocked. Replace with copper pipe for a nice hot heater. *Warning* this carries a SLIGHT risk of the increased pressure causing your matrix to burst. Never happened to me though, in a few years of running like that.
