These things are Stars of Demon Theives catalogue and Halfrauds Rippspeed etc. but what are they meant for? They (I take it) are taken from Motorsport cars that the pedals are specially designed, and these kind of devices are copys. yeah? I have some chequer plate designed ones in dull alloy that a mate gave me one year when he decided they were not what he wanted on his 'tina, like in picture but slightly more shaped et, flat, not rounded. are they ain anyway better than rubber OE pedals? At present they are in my 'to ebay' box, do they have any place on on my cars? Just thought i'd get to the bottom of this one....

They allow you to easily re-space the pedals to suit your position, or if you're having problems with touching two pedals at once, if you're so inclined Ripspeed ones or ones that 'cover' existing pedals are ghey though ;D

Ahh that makes a bit of sense, specially in small cars like 106/saxos etc

I'd assume that they were originally seen on proper motorsport pedal boxes, and have been taken on as a "styling" accessory, culminating in nasty anodised sh!te that you rivet to the existing steel pedals in your 1.0 Corsa "Spin", thus adding weight to the car and negating all the benefits of having alloy components in the first place...

Yeah. Like LewisK said, they were invented to serve a purpose originally but the "styling" ones are just about form rather than function nowadays. A bit like alloy wheels I suppose - were originally lighter than steels for racing, but now most alloys are heavier than their steel equivalents!

i HATE them, the ones i've seen have always been fitted badly by some barryboy that makes using the controls much harder. Thats just my opinion

TBH i'd rather not be assed in fitting em anyway apart from spacing out a small car designed for Size 6 shoes. ;D How do propper rally pedalboxes go in out of interest? are they universal or summat and made to fit? wheres that rally design catalogue. BTW i'm happy with rubber edit: found, obvious mk2 escort etc interesting,,, ebay it is then.

i can stand those pedal extensions personally, i have one on the accelerator on mine just to make it a bit easier to toe heel, but ive seen other people put the bigger pedal cover on the brake for some reason!
those bias boxes are made to measure items, although i think you can get a "univesal" one to modify to fit your application, i just modified a standard pedal box to run twin master cylinders and a balance bar

Hey trg1984, those look great though! - quite period what with the oval shape! Might go for something similar in mine if not darker (and squarer) as the clutch pedal sits quite close to the brake...respacing didn't quite go as planned..... It's when you get the garish anodised red/blue/gold with black inerts style ones that just look guff that it irritates me Especially when they clip over the existing pedal!

I like those metal (alloy?) accelerator pedals you see on VW Campers sometimes that look like a big foot, where do you get those I wonder? I could do with one for my Mk1 Golf as my g/f finds it hard to drive as the throttle pedal is very high up from the floor and she has tiny feet... strangely not an issue with my size 11 feet... Edit: found this one on google images... naff or not...?

Only cool in a beach buggy or similar Know what you mean, would look cool on a buggy, not sure about on the old Golf... Any alternatives to increase the size of the accelerator pedal and look good? I can't really adjust the position of it as it messes up the 'kick down' facility on the auto 'box by the looks of it
