Right then, I know nothing about these cars..... or any japanese cars for that matter! Was pointed in this direction by the fellas at ClubGti.com. A mate has a 1977 (RA28) Celica 1600ST. It has a genuine 7000 miles on the clock - still on the original tyres! The interior of course is mint, it's been dry stored in a dark garage all it's life. It's only done 4k dry weekend miles in the last 4 years. Colour is like this one, maybe slightly lighter (original paint) - A few minor surface rust spots (no rot at all) as you'd imagine, but nothing that couldn't be blown in and then buffed back to perfection - the rest of the paint and chrome is great. Never dunted or hit. Story is apparently that the first owner bought two, a black one and this red one, and put the red one straight into storage (no idea why!). Then it went to a second owner as payment for a debt, he "didn't like it" and rarely drove it so it lived in his garage. Was then sold to my mate 4 years ago and kept in the garage. Starts and drives perfectly, original optional alloys etc, twin Solex (?) carbs, fancy wood-rimmed chrome spoked steering wheel, basically a timewarp car. Are these desirable, worth decent money? He was offered £4k (seems low from what I have been told) by a fella today, and although he doesn't want to sell, financial circumstances dictate otherwise! Just wondering if anyone has an idea of the true value of the car to a Toyota fan, more a VW man myself although I'd love to own this one! TIA...... Tsc

Yep a genuine 7k, any guesstimate as to £££ value? No MoT or tax as it only gets driven round country roads and the like where you don't tend to get stopped by the cops - but I doubt it'd need much if anything for an MoT, it's been looked after. Say he got it MoT'd, has ANYONE any idea what sort of money he should ask for it? I know ones like this aren't exactly common at that sort of mileage, so sorta hard to put a price on it to ask! Or maybe Ebay is the best bet.

Cheers KP, I've registered and awaiting the activation email! I just don't want the car to go to some fool, apparently it should be worth good money to a collector or enthusiast, and my mate really needs the cash.......... just don't know what to ask for it!
Cheers,
Tsc.

a GT at that mileage with MOT i'd happily pay close to 10k for (if i had it) an ST isnt quite as desireable but a absolute bargain would still be had for that car, MOT'd at £6k without MOT my rule is £100 dead

I'll give your mate 2k for it tomorrow. ;D Actually,it's not an RA28 if it's a 1600. We didn't get the 1600 liftback over here so if it was a 1600 it would be a TA2 something. More correct details needed.... correct year, correct engine size, correct body shape.

its complete loons that i have to compete with to find one myself! i *almost* got a free one until the vendor turned sour on me.
and i don't know which cars got sold where, but all '77 mustang-shape liftbacks are known as RA28 models, the later notchback and coupe versions are TA 22/23s.

Well hello Stu! No idea about the whole liftback business etc..... but the RA28 was a code I got from the magic interweb, it's the same (mustang) shape, 1977, 1600cc twin cam with a red cam cover, twin carbs, err........ that's about all I can remember! I'll be down to see it on saturday and get more details and hopefully pics, it's currently sitting behind about 7 VW's...........

More details would be good as the RA28 is a 2 litre, the R signifying that it has Toyotas R series engine in it (2000cc). If it were a 1600 it would be a TA27,T signifying (yep you've guessed it) The T series engine (1600). And the TA27 was never sold in Europe.

Not a problem, when I'm down at the weekend I'll get the chassis plate info and hopefully you can tell me exactly what it is and what he should be looking ££££wise for it! The problem with a car like this is there's a very limited market for it and I don't just mean because of the price. What makes this car different from any other mint liftback is it's mileage, which means if if you want to retain that feature, you can't really use it. No point in paying above what you'd pay for another example in similar condition if you're just going to pile the miles on.
Certainly it's mileage makes it worth more than a similar condition example with average mileage but it also makes the number of potential buyers smaller. If the car is truly exceptional, then I wouldn't be suprised to see a price tag in the £7 - 8k region but I wouldn't expect to find a home for it really quick. I think £4k would be way underpriced.
Sell it to someone in Japan and you might see a lot of money for it.

This is exactly why i couldn't warrant offering good money for it as i'm planning on replacing loads of stuff anyway. The best one i've seen go recently was that restored '73 red gt coupe on the bay in october, selling for 7450 iirc to an irish buyer
