For an 87 polo you need to have the orginals converted to coilies. Give PhilJ a call and he'll sort you out a set

Find Jackson Tuning on Club Polo (That's PhilJ's company). As said, the mk2's can't have simple bolt on coilovers like the later models. The hub and strut are one piece, so you either have to convert yours, or some companies will do them on an exchange basis. They're not cheep though because of needing first world labor to do the conversion  Luckily because coilovers are expensive there's plenty of decent spring and shock kits available for them, even down to pretty serious drops. |

no. it means modifiying the mk2 struts. 6n does not fit.

Basically, fitting coilovers means the need to weld/fabricate things (or pay someone else to). There's a couple of ways of doing it, but they all involve safety critical welding of things. If you're able to do that then brilliant, if not then it's an expensive route to take.
Why the need for coilovers anyway? Unless you want to corner-weight the car there's not really anything wrong with just using a spring and shock kit. OK you don't get the fine adjustment of ride height, but you can get it pretty damn close usually.

Wouldent u be able to do a hub conversion?? Use the 6n polo front hubs and breaks? u should be able to pick them up fairly cheapfom a scrappie

The drive-shaft lengths are wrong, and the steering arm's in a completely different place. It can be done using mk1 golf hubs, struts and outer CV joints, but you have to weld the mk2 polo steering arm onto the mk1 golf coilover-strut, so even that needs custom fabrication, and it's not an ideal set-up putting the steering forced through a route that wasn't designed to take them. Better off modifying the Polo struts with threaded sleeves really. Unfortunately the idea of lowering a mk2 Polo's been around for a while, and pretty much every avenue's already been explored. If you want coilovers on one you either need money or fabricating skills. The cost of coilovers isn't actually that bad for the quality of the set-ups you get for the money, it's just that the inclusion of the hub in the strut means you can't get the bargain basement set-ups like you can for later stuff. From what I remember the coilovers for them start at around £500, although I think you may get a little of that back if you then send them your old hubs/struts for them to modify for the next guy. |

Just get a set of ta technix shortened dampers and springs, don't understand why people have such a burning desire for coilovers when shortened dampers and springs will do a pretty similar job - you can pick them up for £140
|

Damping isn't ajustable on the TA Technics shocks. The front is fixed height, the rear has a locking collar that you can move up and down in 10mm (IIRC) increments so you can adjust the height that way. My Polo had -80mm springs and -10mm lowering caps, and wasn't too bad to drive with 165/65 tyres. Don't whatever you do use 175/50 13 tyres. Yes I know all the scene bum boys use em, but it makes the ride awful and they handle like curse word, and they don't fill the arches so hey look like a rollerskate.

Oh and I wouldn't bother with TA Technix front shocks, mine drove much nicer on the stock shocks with the 90mm lowering than it did on the TA Technix shocks. Might aswell have run on the bumpstops on the TA Technix shocks was awful.
