Man, 85, has car he has owned for 44 years stolen

A pensioner has had to make alternative arrangements to visit his sick wife in hospital, including over Christmas, after his motoring pride and joy was stolen.
Sometime between 11am on Friday 21 December 2012 and 5pm the following day, a grey Morris Minor, registration XBU 911, was stolen from the victim’s garage on Cringle Road, Levenshulme.
The 85-year-old victim has owned the car for 44 years.
His wife is currently ill in hospital and instead of being able to drive to see her he has to fund his daily commute by taxi, including having to pay for extra fares over Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
A man described as white, about 6ft tall, between 25 and 35 years old with collar-length ‘mousey’ hair was seen driving a vehicle of similar description away from the scene.
Pc Lisa Valentine, from the Fallowfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The car is this man’s pride and joy and is the biggest love in his life after his wife.
“He has looked after the car with dedication and purpose for more than 40 years and it is more than a mode of transport for him.
“Sadly, the theft has added to what is already a very worrying time and he now has the added expense and stress of having to get a taxi everyday to visit his wife - who is unwell in hospital – instead of simply being able to drive over and see her.
“I would dearly love to reunite this car with the victim and if anyone has seen it being driven around or knows of its current whereabouts, please call us.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0161 856 4423, or Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
