I came in from the garage with Major mojo failure last night thanks to my old discovery.
I knew it had a small hole in the drivers side inner sill around 6"long which needed welding before I could MOT it. Not a problem the rest seemed solid enough. Had a bit poke around with a screwdriver to find most of the sill was a combination of filler and sheet steel stuck on to rust with filler and then undersealed over the top
Right fair enough its worse than I thought but still needs doing. Start cutting it out until all five foot of the sill is removed. Then find that the rot also spreads into the rear wheel arch.
To make matters worse I look up and see that one of the body to chassis mounting pounts looks a bit crusty. Jab the floor with a screwdriver and thats fubarred as well.
Decide feck it I need a break and think about what to do. 200tdi with no tax and test is worth around £600 spares or repair if the engines good(which mine is). Mot`ed its only worth £800-£1000 max. And I am gonna sell it once its mot`ed anyway
I came really close to just giving up on it, which I never do.
Had a think about it and decided that tonight I would get under and have a good check over every last bit and see exactly how much weldings needed to do it right. If its gonna be to much I would call it a day.
So tonight gave it a good thorough check with hammer and screwdriver and there are 3 chassis to body mounting points that are badly corroded and are gonna need repairing, the inner wheel arch, then the inner sill and the floor around the inner sill.
I`ve worked out a way of repairing the body/chassis mounting points without having to lift the body of the chassis.
So got cracking with the welder wheel arch is now repaired one of the mounting points (near to the sill) is repaired, part of the floor and the rear end of the sill is done. I have just come in cos I am absolutely nithered -4 in the garage(got a thermometer to check ) and laid on the concrete floor for best part of four hours was doing my back no good.
Feel much better for carrying on with it. I would have been really disapointed with myself if I had quit (even though it would probably be the sensible thing to do).
Right gonna get myself a JD to help warm me up now while I watch Shameless now.
No pics of the work but heres a library shot of the vehicle that was curse word me off
