Cheers for all the input guys. It's given me plenty to think about. while it is sporty, doesn't have to shout it around Gotta say this resonates with me, and with the whole Lancia approach. In a way overarches are a bit brash for such a delicate car. I've spent a number of hours with a mate tonight basically staring at the car, studying the lines and talking about over arches and I've come to the conclusion of no. I like the lines she has, I like the shape of the stock arches and I noticed I was saying 'if I could do the Maserati wheels on stock arches that would be the best compromise, but it's just not possible'. And really while I like the Maserati wheels, they wont make up for losing the tight lines of the Fulvia. This does mean that for the time being, and possibly for good, no Maserati wheels. I'll have another think about ways to get them to fit without overarches before I sell them on, but it's not looking promising. The plan with the indicators is to recess them into the front valance, which is what has been done to that white one with the arches. Seth, I'm afraid I've already tried that, go back a page or two and you'll see I spent 3 days fighting to get the front spring out, not an easy job on a Fulvia made worse by stuck bolts. I then rebuilt it, and flipped it round to no avail. This evening I popped on a 10mm spacer, instead of 20mm, on the high side of the car then set about the rear springs. I decided to try out the 5th and 6th leaves flipped instead of 3rd. Here you can see the before at the top and then the after below it. What was interesting was that putting my weight on the new leaf combination it was initially much softer but then went stiffer than the pervious set-up. While it's only a subtle difference the car is now sitting more how I'd like her to. I took her for a good drive tonight and it feels better too, the rear is noticeably stiffer like this which makes it more playful. Generally please with that. I also made a start with a magnet marking out all the areas of filler on the rear left arch and broke out the cardboard to begin building templates for the metal work. I'm going to try and be as prepped as possible, then make a long day of it Saturday to get this arch in metal. Paint and prettiness can wait till after the MOT!

Been following this thread for a while and loving the ups and downs of using a classic, an Italian one at that, as a daily driver.
Have to agree that the white one looks absolutely bob-on but fully understand your reticence in making changes that would be very difficult to reverse on something so rare.

Cheers Shandy Its certainly a roller coaster. I felt much the same roller coaster (though with smaller bumps!) when I had my 90s Alfa GTV as a daily, I spent most of the time cursing it, but missed it more than any other car I'd owned once it had been sold. what are the chances of you being in it at the gathering this year? I'm there Shan't bother looking for a stand, just gonna be in retro parking, but I'll be there for sure. I''d like to try and get up the hill again, as it was awesome fun in the rx7, but with queuing and stuff it took pretty much the whole day so might just sit back and enjoy the show this year.

I have to admit I'm in favour of discreet over-arches, mostly because they'd allow to fit the Maserati wheels. What offset are they, by the way? So you're looking for 5x14, 5.5x14 or 6x14 inch wheels, ET45 or something and 4x98 right? Lancia Delta wheels sound a little obvious, but I'm sure there are plenty of alternatives

haha Eurogranda, I might sound respectful of it here, but you should hear me when it's deciding to not work when I need to drive it, I'm quite rude to it then Yeah the only thing driving me towards arches was fitting the Maserati wheels really (and being lazy when it comes to metal work which is probably false economy....) but having slept on it, I feel even more confident its the right call to stick to stock body shape. The wheels currently are 14x6 et22 in 4x130 with what must be 70mm+ centre bore. They fit just nice. The problem with Maserati wheels is that while they are still 14x6 they are et6 4x98 with a small centerbore and due to the massive difference in centerbore size redrilling the hubs isn't gonna be an option so they'd need PCD adapters which are a minimum of 15mm deep, effectively making them et-9. 3cm is a lot of room to find, and seeing as the camber is fixed front and rear and I don't want to run lots of stretch (not that 175s are currently mad wide anyway...) it's just not happening. If I could find some 14x6 or 14x7s in an offset around et20 - et25 that would be perfect. I think I could re-drill the hubs for 4x114.3 without too much hassle as long as the centerbore of the wheels is fairly large, obviously 4x130 would be best but very few wheels that suit the Fulvia in that size.

I was looking at those Lotus wheels before I found the Maserati wheels, The House. They are back on the maybe list. If I'm honest I still love the idea of either Hayashi Streets or SSR mk2s it's just a case of finding them + the cost! I'm sorry I've never been a fan of the s3 Rx7 wheels mate Anyway wheel's are not important for now. Bad news, I think the Lancia is gonna have to come off the road for a while. I've only got this weekend left to work n her before the MOT is up. What I had an exploritory removal of filler on the rear arch it revealed another horror show. While the arch edge itself is no worse than I previously knew, and wouldn't be too bad a fix, the whole rear quarter is like a sieve. Just like the front was theres inches of filler in places, lead, brazing, the odd bit of chicken wire and fibreglass. It's all in there. It's gonna need a sizeable amount of rear quarter replacing and some of the sill. On top of this arch, the other side rear arch was only gonna pass MOT with plenty of gaffer tape, the left side handbrake has packed up for the third time, I've found a freshly split CV boot and a whole load of other minor issues. I'm moving out next week, and I've got a totally packed month of work for August (not a bad thing really). There's no way in hell it's gonna be ready to be MOTed on the 8th. So I think the poor little Lancia is gonna have to be packed away in the garage at the new house, and be a bit of a slow burning project for a while. Hopefully she will emerge in a few months, like a butterfly, all pretty and shiny and ready to face the world once more! In the mean time I better find myself a cheap daily that wont drive me insane with boredom!

She will be back better than ever. A daily driver you say. Dare I suggest the lancia dedra or Alfa 155 that are for sale. Both will drive you insane but not through boredom

I think eclat wheels would suit the car down to the ground. Does Mystery Machine have a spare set? Might be worth sending him a pm to find out?
Sorry to hear about the rust. Bad times. But I have faith that when youre finished it will be awesome.
What about a little kei car as a daily? Can pick them up cheaply, 660cc turbo and most of them are 4wd, so good fun to drive, cheap to insure etc etc.

ah mate, that is looking properly grim on the flanks. a few of us have been in this situation, perpetually finding rough bits and feeling like your only reward for fixing stuff is finding more shonk.
I know its pretty empty gesture as one of us at are the coal face, so to speak, but keep up the hard work, its worth persevering imho

I was gonna make a joke about Lancias and rust, but it seems a bit cruel! Even for me. Hope you get it done for RRG!

Thanks for the votes of confidence that i'll get her sorted guys. It will be worth it, I know it will. Hopefully taking her off the road for a bit means that I can fix all the issues that are kinda waiting in the wings and when she hits the road again there will be no more of the constant scrabbling to keep on top of the problems. Daily thoughts have stalled a bit, I can share the girlfriends KA for a few weeks, gonna sit tight till I've got a better idea of if the Lancias gonna be in bits for a few weeks or a few months. I'm liking the ideas though, I was already idly looking through the for sale section at the 155 and Dedra. I'm not sure I'm man enough to own 2 Lancias at the same time yet I'd happily rock a Viva for a while Alex, but I'd just be worried another 70s car is gonna have as many issues as the Fulvia has really. hmmm. I wouldn't get your hopes up Mark....

It's a shame, but better to get it sorted properly than to bodge it to stay on the road. Pm me your address and I'll send you that Viva Lancia for inspiration! ;-) Cheers Duncan

Happier times.....
She'll live again soon. I'm missing her already, though I'm having bad thoughts about extra power! haha. Must stay focused on sorting the restoration type issues first though.
