Sorry but, meth for waste metals. PMSL. Yeah my local yard have moved over to BACS transfer as of last month, seems a rather curious way to go as they don't deal in any scrap metal, only cars - and there can't be many people stealing to weigh in surely?

people can be paid in cash still however thy have to have the appropriate license which allows this, which has to be applied for and granted, you cant just turn up and say i don't live anywhere and get cash payment.

Where you get that from ?? We got all the 'gumph' at work ..... clearly states no cash payment for scrap metals. And being a waste transfer station and skip hire company we have all licenses we cannot deal in cash in anyway whatsoever with the local scrapyards.

I last ran (some of my own waste metal) in mid December and took a cheque as payment. Bit of a pain as I had less than a tenner to my name and had to wait 4 days for it to clear. My mates old van

Unfortunately cars are stolen regularly to be weighed in, older cars being towed are regularly stopped by police for this reason. There was a spate of old 70s and 80s Mercs being stolen for parts for export to African companies. There is also a good trade for audis being taken for export to Poland and Lithuania. Second hand car dealers with p/x to clear vehicles when stolen have been known to find them at the local scrapyards.

Straight from the clause in the statute. the law reforms has a clause allowing itinerant traders to still be paid in cash, loads of articles about it, they have to be registered with th local authority to gain this exemption though.
