I've not weighed anything in for about 2 months so don't know what the deal with the new no cash payment method is? The Mondeo is going in the next few days once i've lifted a few bits off it. Got the V5 in my name, showing we've owned it for 12 years but I'm guessing I am going to still have to accept a cheque/bank transfer etc etc as payment?
Done some googling and read a few things but wanted to hear stories from ppl who have sent stuff over the bridge in the last 3 weeks or so since the law on cash payment for metal came into force
Thanks
Jetronic.

Basically the general idea is the scrap merchant has to be able to provide details of the people who bring the scrap in. There also has to be a 'paper trail' of where the payments go. So no more cash transactions are allowed ... therefore cheque/ bank transfers only......
This of course depends on the 'honesty' of the scrappie .......
Oh and if there is an Enviroment Agengy van parked nr it ... be aware they might be interested ... you have to prove to them that you don't need a waste transfer licence ..... thats been happening round here a couple of times .....

I took some stuff in the other weekend. Gave them the bank details and he transfered the cash in front of me. Was able to draw it out the bank two hours later. Easy and straightforward.

One of the local places has apparently set up a "Cash A Cheque" place in a spare office next to the gate.

Just another way of the government to cash in on it. Good in a way but bad in another. Think that some people will end up with a tax bill soon than later

Been in a "few" times recently, just handed over my debit card and they transferd it as a refund straight to my account, still took 2 days to clear (3 if after 1 PM), that's with nationwide other banks may differ no idea?

The cheque cashing place onsite is a brilliant idea, for those on the right side of the counter. What cut do they take?
Never thought about the effect of people forgetting, or being unable, to cash the cheque.

iv just had to regester my self as we were making too much racing waste lol
long and short is as most have said above
payment by bank transfer/refund to debit card /cheque
some sites have there cheque cashing office on sit taking between 7% and 15% around here depending on the value of the cheque
breakers yards can still take cars for cash payment although they tend to pay less
if you find yourself putting stuff in regularly keep a detailed record of what it was where it came from etc just incase mr tax man comes knocking althou i doubt theyll bother chasing small fish in such a big pond

if you are "of no fixed abode" I'm led to believe you can be paid by cash, which is quite amusing given that is the type of person this hair-brained scheme was thought up to catch out...

That surely can't be right on the no fixed abode, so it's game on as usual for the thieves, while the rest of us genuine bods jump through hoops surrounded by red tape!
