Happy new year all. Plumbing in my bike cars and was wondering what went where. I'm assuming where the red arrow is is the fuel going in....but what is the pipe where the yellow arrow the is?

And the two you can see left and right at the bottom I assume these are overflows?

by the looks of it yeah the red should be fuel in, ones along the bottom look like its possibly vacuum related?

red arrow is fuel in (black stub) easy to check : connect length of pipe to it, you should be able to blow in when carbs are right way up, not when they are upside down (as in your pic) white pipes either side are overflows bikes don't have the same vacum take-off that car manifolds have so you might have problems connecting your brake servo & distrbutor vac advance pipe. yellow could be vaccume take-off - I'd just blank it to get it running, check if it sucks once motor is running I normally do a few quick checks before fitting carbs of unknown history : remove the float bowl (top casting in your pic) from each carb, clean any crud, remove all jets and check they're not blocked. carbs must be fitted right way up or you'll get fuel pouring out of everywhere best if they are at the same angle they would be on the bike (on some this is horizontal, on others they are at an angle) once it's up and running, see if you can borrow a set of vaccum gauges from a bike mechanic to synch the carbs, you get a much smoother motor shout if you get stuck ;D

Sweet, ive just purchased a bike fuel pump off ebay so as soon as it arrives i'll plumb it in. But will pull the float bowls off before and check them out. Cheers for the help ;-)

Just one more thing Nomad, I'm not running a dizzy nor do i need vacume for anything other than servo. Is it ok to take a feed off just one cylinder?

Servo ... Is it ok to take a feed off just one cylinder? Never tried bike carbs on a car but I do a lot of bike fettling so know how they work on a bike Not sure what your options are for vac for servo, *IF* yellow in the pic is vac from carbs, it looks too tiny to flow for a servo thinking out loud... what motor is it (I think some Pugs have vac pump driven by the motor ) see if there's any info on Dez's thread retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=122676&page=16maybe tap each manifold, fit a servo-size takoff stub to each, connect them to a 5-way T (4 in, 1 to servo) - possibly best to fit a 1-way valve to each stub to avoid isolate each carb ... or look for bike carbs in readers rides and see what/how it's been doen there

With nothing monitoring either vacuum or air-flow how will the engine know how much load it's being put under in order to alter the ignition timing accordingly?

leave all 4 of the hoses connected and then just connect up the open end to the servo, how i had mine for ages and worked perfectly fine you can see the vac line goin off to the left, its better to make up a small pot with all vacs from the carbs and then 1 take off for the servo, will give a more even pedal feel, you can do the one line from 1 port, but its not overly ideal after the pic was taken i did make a small pot, i can't find a pic, if i do i will post it up
