I would bet a vital organ of your choice on this being an Automatic, not sure if they were available in a manual, but I have never encountered a V8 mercedes with a manual out of the factory.
Shame as that would be a pretty fearsome combination.

I have two of these e430 wagons and they are wonderful barges. 31mpg on a run as well, but much much less around town Being the bigger engine, it also comes with some fun toys Mercedes have not offered a v8 with a manual box since the early 70's - although I don't know anything about their modern stuff. I believe AMG would bolt in a manual if you wanted, but that was mega money, and thus mega rare! On saying all that, the 5-speed auto that these things come with is very well suited to the engine, and can be adapted to a certain extent to your driving style. I just waft around in mine, but I also had this box in a stripped out track s-class and it worked very well. G'luck with the sale, nice looking useful car - and the right colour combo too!
