Well - Test Drive Unlimited is out soon...so a teaser thread was in order ;D In Test Drive Unlimited, the player is able to drive both on-road and off-road, challenging any racers they encounter. Oahu (the island it is set on) is modeled to within a metre of detail of its real life counterpart, as the developers have used satellite imaging for precision modeling[1]. The terrain differs from rainforest and mountains to sandy beaches and Hawaii's capital city, Honolulu. You can drive around at will, wherever you choose to go. The aim of the game varies - there are set challenges to complete as well as free racing against online oppenents who inhabit the island - but the bane of it is to collect winnings, purchase houses, build up your garages and tune the nuts off your cars The detail on the cars is ferocious - in the dealers, or at your garage, you can open all the doors, bonnet, windows, sit in the cabin, look in detail at the gauges and so on. These shots are (in game, yes) from the Xbox 360 version - the PC one looks better (with the right kit, of course) here's a 4 minute preview. And the original trailer: I'm looking forward to playing it - the handling is rumoured to be forgiving and slightly arcadey but that didn't stop me enjoying Need For Speed - should be a good laugh. I look forward to purchasing a shiny 308 and cruising around the island on it ;D

iv got the game on the 360. the handling is TERRIBLE. shame since its a genius game. if they sort out the handling in the pc version it will pretty much be the perfect racing game. and the caterham is a beast of a car in TDU. although the bikes are the best vehicles bar none.

That's interesting to hear! There is already a patch for the PC beta version so it'll be interesting to see if they implement any modifications. Is it just on-rails completely infallible handling or like driving hovercarts? ;D For some reason this game just appeals to me, poking around dealerships, sitting in cars I can't afford and driving to a random location to take photos

I havent played it for a while now so I cant remember exactly what I hated about the handling. I just remember really hating it.
the rest of the game is exactly like youd expect. it is really good. the best way to describe it would be "millionaire sim with the boring bits taken out". buy houses, cars, and clothes then show off around the island.
damnit youv made me want to go back to it now! ill fire it up and then ill try to describe the handling.

just had a bash at it and i think i remember what i hated about the handling. the cars spin too easily. plus the island has a lot of bumps in the road that send the car skyward. they're usually before corners too. other than that the games a great larf! just bought me the dodge challenger. is it wrong that thats probably the best handling car iv driven so far?

My computer (graphics card) is too crappy to be able to play GT legends, i play Live for Speed loads though.

Live For Speed has really cool car dynamics - I downloaded the demo ages ago and still play it. Starion-type jobbie on the rallycross course = big fun

I've been playing this since just before Xmas. To be honest all the cars handle pretty much the same. The most of the retro stuff is too slow, Even when they're tuned. I haven't tried the 250GTO as i've just spent far too long earning $5mil to buy one and it's out of stock. A handy hint for online racing is to put the finish line on a road parrallel with the start and nip across the scenery. ;D

Yeah been played this game a few monthes back for a while, not a huge fan. Lots of potential but still I would much rather Gran Turismo anyday. I will be happy if they just iron out a few of the problems in GT4 throw in a few extra cars(not that it lacks anyway) and I reckon it would be the perfect game.

Not into computer games but used to like them as a kid so I`ve got a commodore 64 emulator, and I was playing the original Test Drive from 1987 a couple of weeks ago (used to have it on tape, took about 6 weeks to load). One track, 5mph, constantly running into ceefax style trucks that just appear from nowhere. Handling? ahahahahahaha. Thats what you want. A proper game.
