No more project cars huh? Ooops.. ;D Some things are too tempting to pass up - thanks to SpineyNorman of this parish for this one - I think he was close to breaking the Rekord* so I'm glad to have got there in time. HC Snr had a bright orange late 70's Rekord in about '87 (some of our house roof landed on it in the big hurricane - I blame Michael Fish) which might actually be the first car I can remember. I've asked him to dig out a pic, but anyway I couldn't not buy this one Only the small issue of it being in pieces, and 250 miles away in South Wales to deal with - no problem! Find someone else with something to collect nearby (Nigel Bickle - who else), borrow a shonky old Transit bevertail and hit the road! Long day, slow truck, lots of miles, well well worth it. Back at TAB.. Plans? Principally to get it on the road with spending as little money as possible. I also have other more long-term projects to be getting on with so want to turn this one around in Rekord* time It's mostly disassembled, and rusty, and void of paint - all of which will, in time be resolved. For now in one piece, working & MoT'able will suffice ;D *Rubbish Pun Count: 2

First thing to sort out for a new car? Wheels. Unfortunately for the Rekord* the wheels I've chosen are going to be an enormous ball-ache to fit.. Original wheels: New wheels: Comparison / issue: Dreadful sketch of the solution (which Dez is currently heroically creating for me ;D ) Like I said, massive ball ache. Worth it? You've got the same problem as me mate - that black Manta of mine went a couple of weeks after you took this one, and I've already told my mate I'll have his Senator off him. Not that there aren't two Senators sat on my Dad's drive already...
Did you manage to get that kickdown cable from Tony in the end?

Certainly an unusual stud pattern. 4WD's do have some interesting wheels & sizes...... One panel is Orangish already...

Ha, thanks Gents - 'loving' the pun-off A list of main jobs performed to date, will get pics this w/e: - Gearbox (which was in the boot) installed, with TqC, prop, etc.. Cooler pipes (cut) replaced & routed to the rad - Rad fitted, coolant pipes sourced (from TAB stock) & fitted - Manifolds bolted on (new gaskets from TAB stock) - Rest of engine assembled (loom, throttle linkage & cables..) - Engine test-fired - runs pretty well, slight miss, bogs down when warm - might fit electronic ignition dizzy & Weber carb/mani (from TAB stock) - Front struts re-fitted with new lowing springs (which were in the boot) - will cut 'em when the wheels are fitted I've driven it round the yard a bit - autobox seems to work ok, runs okish (see above) temps ok anyhow, brakes work, PAS works (didn't know it had it til I got it home). All pretty weird really! Could be a new Rekord..* Total spend on that ^^ lot - £0 ;D Having 2 Mantas at TAB, neither of which have standard Manta engines going back in is FTW when fixing up a car with what is basically a Manta engine. i actually like it, in a big brother to the mk2 cav with correct wheel drive kind of way. why is the front wing like that do you think? was it abandoned repaint, or deliberate rat job ? i guess if you saved it, theres not much service rekords ?

The whole car was left with no paint by the owner before my mate, he wanted to rat it by letting it get rusty. My mate started painting it chassis black but ran out of paint (and interest) before he sold it to me!

Thanks Gents updates? Ok! So I've spent probably 2 full days on this now, trying to set the Rekord straight*, mostly making things like this: Look more like this: My welding on this isn't going to win any awards, but the whole car looks like & probably always will, so passing an MoT (preferably as soon as possible) is all that really matters at the moment. So far I've done the drivers side a-pillar bottom, both sill ends & a few patches along the sill. On the passenger side I've done the a-pillar bottom and that sill end, but still need to do the other end and a patch on the floor/footwell. Drivers side is done tho, which meant I could bolt the wing on finally, & mess around mocking up the front.. Starting to look like a car again now ;D New front panel / valence I zapped on before lines up nicely with the wing, which is pleasing - gap between it & the headlights will be covered up by the bumper... ...which I trial fitted: Going to fiddle with where it mounts to get it closer in to the body & hopefully line up with the arch - looks do-able.. Haven't decided weather to put the side trims back on the wings & doors yet - opinions? Then it was time to mess about with the wheels again ;D Rear (lowing springs - lol! More needed..) Properly in love with that interior - crushed lion ftw! ^^that's with an Elk sat on the boot Front (also in need of mo-lo) Fitment is pretty good (bearing in mind 12mm adaptor to go in there yet) Those are 185/45-15's - I've bought a pair of 165/50's and a pair of 165/55's (all part-worns) so will see how they go. I'm hoping a bit more sidewall & a touch of stretch will get them fitting & looking spot on General view.. Pretty happy with progress so far - hope to finish the passenger side welding this w/e and get the other wing bolted on - then I can fit the headlights, grille & bumper *Rubbish Pun Count: 5
