Check out the Fuji 5600S - It's going for around £130 at the moment (£115 if you can find it in your local Argos).

I've always fancied one of those super slim Casio jobbies. Dunno what the pic quality is like, but my last camera was the size of a house brick so used to be a chore to cart it around everywhere. I suppose it depends on what kind of photos you wanna take - reasonable quality snaps, or professional-looking photography like James_TMP there (excellent pics BTW!)

i'd recomend a Canon PowerShot. Until recently I was using a A75 (I think) and it allowed you plenty of shooting options, wasnt too big, and wasnt too expensive.
Cameras are one of those things where you get what you paid for ...

oh and don't look for megapixels, look for lens quality. THe panasonic is a leica lens, sony uses carl zeiss, my camera is only 2mp, but that leica lens makes all the difference.

Just read everything here. Fantastic site, with independent reviews for each camera: www.cameras.co.uk/When you choose one, make sure you do a good online search for prices as they vary wildly from supplier to supplier. My recommendation is the Canon Powershot A710. Always gets good reviews and scores well on the camera site above. Here's the review: www.cameras.co.uk/camera-reviews/canon-powershot-a710-is.cfmPrices here (best price currently is £192.70 inc P&P from PixMania): digitalcameras.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/sbs/124901/17119094.htmlI know two people who have one of these and the picture quality is excellent. I'm getting one soon too. You can do videos with sound on this one, which is good. If you are into photography and want to get a bit more creative, this camera will take an adapter to fit additional lenses. A wide angle lens is a good idea, expecially if taking photos in restricted space, such as at car shows. You also have full manual control on this camera so you can experiment with effects etc. One other thing to consider when looking for a camera is its battery. I prefer to have one that takes standard AA size batteries. The reason for this is that you can buy a charger and get a few sets of AA batteries cheaply, to charge up and take with you when you are out and about. Simply swap them over when it conks out. Cameras with their own format batteries are useless once you've run that battery out. A second back-up battery is always expensive. With AAs you know you'll always be able to keep your camera up and running. The A710 takes SD or MMC memory cards too, which are cheap to buy. Make sure you do a good search for prices with these as well because they can be surprisingly cheap. computing.kelkoo.co.uk/b/a/c_100294323_sd_card.htmlMike :-)

Someone told me that anything over 5Mpx isn't worth it unless you're producing huge printed images. But I'm a bit of a layman when it comes to these things.

Gotta disagree with the battery comment, the Li-Ion pack that comes with the panasonic last much longer than AA's and they are only about £5 on ebay. Different filters/lenses is a good idea, i love shots with a fish eye lens, i have yet to get one though. Barrell vison FTW J

The panasonic Lumix`s are a good camera. I would recommend the Fuji S5600. I have a Fuji S5500, had it for around 18 month now. Reason I bought it was the fastest digital camera around other than an SLR. By fast I mean from switching on to being able to take a picture and also the speed of focusing. This is what lets a lot of digital cameras down. The Lumix are better picture quality and the image stability is pretty good but the speed is quite a bit slower than my Fuji. I wanted a faster camera partly for motorsport pics, partly wildlife and partly for family (nieces, nephews etc..) Its annoying as hell getting your camera out aiming, waiting for your camera to focus before you can take your shot, and then finding out youve missed it

AAs will always be available, but manufacturers' own format batteries can become obsolete! Already had that problem once! Also, if caught short, you can always nip into a shop and buy some AAs to salvage your day's photography :-)

Its annoying as hell getting your camera out aiming, waiting for your camera to focus before you can take your shot, and then finding out youve missed it I had this problem at the Le Mans Classic last year. It's was impossible trying to use the camera screen to take action shots because of the delay. Using the viewfinder solved the problem though! Got some good shots that way. Mike :-)

Fuji 5600 does seem very cheap for the money. I ended up with a Canon Powershot S3 IS which has the image stabilisation missing on the cheaper Fuji but cost about £150 more! Also records videos in stereo (albeit on a curse word mega-size AVI format) and has 12x zoom which can be used during video capture.
Uses AA batteries - I've had specific ones before and you can get caught out, even with a spare battery! Nothing beats just nipping into a shop and buying some more AAs.
I do like it (still getting to grips with it to be honest) but the Fuju does seem much better value.

I recently purchased a fuji finepix f30 for £200 (Amazon now want £154.39) and I'd recomended it as a great all rounder. 6.3 million pixals Quick reponse times 0.01 shutter lag and 1.4 start-up time It's small has a great screen, the battery lasts for ages and ages (up to 580 shots per single charge) The video function is great ( 30 frames per second with sound for as long as the memory card allows) but the killer feature is it's night time shooting (ISO 3200 sensitivity at full resolution) which is absolutly superb, something that most others in your budget wouldn't be. On the downside it's a little slippery and it uses XD cards which are not as cheap as some, I still got a 2GB card for under £60 online though (p.c world wanted £55 for a 512mb ) Seriously check it out you wont be dissapointed
