A little while ago mr. EmDee professed his entirely understandable longing for a Fiat 130 coupe. Understandable because it's one of the best looking cars ever. I mentioned the fact that there was also a 'Fiat 130 Coupe Saloon' and everyone looked at me like I was mad. I could possibly have explained it better but I was probably drunk. Anyway, here it is. The Fiat 130 Opera, a one-off styling exercise by Pininfarina from 1974. The underrated genius Paolo Martin took his already beautiful 130 Coupe design and simply stretched it, added a couple of extra doors and seemingly without any effort created THE best looking 4-door saloon car of all time. The eagle-eyes among you may have noticed that it wasn't the only bastardised derivative of the 130 coupe. The other one is the Maremma, a lovely 3-door shooting break. Lovely. Both cars remained sadly unique, and were part of PF's private collection for many years. I vaguely remember them being sold off in the big sale they had in around 1996 so presumably are now in private hands. Hopefully both are regularly used by their owners to cruise around in, like a (1970s Mafia) BOSS

I do love a 130 coupe but I have to agree that the 4 door is one of the best looking cars ever

God I love these soo much. Thanks Barrett, great xmas present!
I always thought the 4 door came before the coupe, learn something new every day ;D
I usually prefer estatey versions of cars, particularly a 2 door shooting brake, but in this case, I just love the big long boot of the coupe and the saloon, perfection.

I have a vague idea that the 4-dr one came to live in Britain and was used as a daily by its owner, not sure where I know that from but i'm sure I read about Buckley stumbling across it in a supermarket car park once. Does that ring any bells with anyone else?
I wonder how hard it would be to build another of those 4-dr jobs. Maybe you could use a modified B-pillar/C-pillar and rear doorshell from a 130 saloon. Would be a fookin great project that! (Yeah yeah, beaver patrol and all that). Maybe do it to an italian import before registering it and tell the beaver squad 'it was like that when i bought it'

I've just remembered, actually the car i'm thinking of is the 4-dr Lancia gamma coupé not the 4-dr Fiat 130 coupé.

It's nice, but for me at least not a patch on the coupe. The coupe is exquisite. Thanks for posting - it is interesting to see. David

The back doors look like front doors with a wheel arch cut out to me, even the window frames look the same as the front doors just reversed as if front passenger side and rear drivers side are the same.

Hang on just a bleedin minute! I was just having a quick perv over this and noticed the rear windows are different on each side! Check the little B.5 pillar between the B and C pillar. All the pics above show it on the drivers side and not the passengers side. Err I mean the opposite of that but yeah.

Hang on just a bleedin minute! I was just having a quick perv over this and noticed the rear windows are different on each side! Isn't that normal on these full sized styling mockups? I'm sure I've seen the same thing in pics of Austins and Rovers that didn't quite make it out of the door on the ARO site. The back doors look like front doors with a wheel arch cut out to me, even the window frames look the same as the front doors just reversed as if front passenger side and rear drivers side are the same. I think you're spot on. The odd triangle above the rear door handle gave it away for me.
