As with many cars, especially the older ones, the most wanted, purest form Blazers were the originals. Over the years they have evolved a lot. Originals lost the whole roof...... This makes them coveted. By the time 1979 and my Blazer rolled in, the drivers or front roof section had become fixed, with only the rear fiber glass or is that glassfibre canopy section unbolting and lifting away, leaving you with a very basic truck like profile. The canopy side glass also became available with sliding glass, I prefer the look of solid glass. Front ends and hoods/bonnets kept changing too in order to keep people interested. Single round headlights, evolved through square and double stacked etc. I found a 2WD Blazer, Jimmy, Suburban thread of 52 pages and pulled off some pics to add in here, partly as reference, but also because it reminds me that in summer this truck may just become even more fun. Did I say FUN ? Or FUN DISCLAIMER. Please keep in mind that there are no plans for fancy paint jobs, 22” wheels, turbos, blowers etc, Love everything about this truck. And would love one of these hoods for my truck with the bulge. Same truck, big wheels that are not my taste at all. Great colour combo, same series as my Blazer. Really like this, despite the current paint status. So there you have a mix, just to feast your eyes, and for ideas together in one place. Thank you to the owners who posted up the original photos that I have pulled together on here. Do feel free to add more if you have more TOPLESS Blazers.

On my first USA road trip, this was one seen in Texarkana. Next we heard the unmistakable rumble of large bore straight through pipes and Scott pulled up. Niiiiiiiiice...!! I know it's not retro, but we seem to like unusual just as much. Thus is a little Columbian RAM 1000 based on the little jeep Renegade. Love the barn door rears. Somebody got their money's worth from the ugly stick!!

For occasional use, this does actually make sense. However, as a working, building site or farm truck I have my doubts about how the split tailgate will last.

This is mine at the moment. And this is the standard I’m judging it against.

I thought I'd posted pics of mine in here already, but a flick through suggests otherwise. A 2002 Holden VY SS Ute. Most important aspect of this is the 5.7 litre V8 under the bonnet And here is a slightly modified one:

This thread is getting far too modern for my liking. Lets redress the imbalance.

I kinda like it, infact theres a lot of newer pick ups on the market that I quite like. Like this little Fiat Fullback Wait a second... I've seen that face somewhere before! Why do all new trucks appear to be crew cab short beds? Warning incoming opinion, they are totally pointless, the bed is too small to benefit from and the cab isnt really big enough to comfortably sit 4/5 people. Its literally the worst of all worlds and every time I see one its spotless and never loaded up... /rant

No, they're not pointless, they can't be otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell them. I've had a few crew cabs and as a fella with a family they're pretty good. The first one, the Tata Loadbeta was my first foray into crew cab family pick up ownership. It was pretty good, seated five ok(ish) 2wd did everything we needed it to do. Then came the Dodge Dakota seated six, decent sized bed, 2wd, plenty of power, good all rounder! Then the Ford Ranger, like the Dakota, bench seat front and back, six people could get in there, but it would be two adults and a child up front, and two children and an adult in the back if you wanted to be comfortable. First 4x4 pick up for me, but it was pretty good, and we could go anywhere in it. Never seen another one with six seats since owning this one.
Next up the L200, again, five people could get in there, and a pretty good bed size. Lastly the Chev-suzu. Five seats, half decent sized load lugging ability, pretty good all rounder. The thing is if there's just two of you and you need something to haul around stuff like 8x4 sheets of plywood or plasterboard then I'll admit the crew cab isn't the best option, although you can still do it. But if part of the things you haul about are your wife and kids they're brilliant. Here's a few pictures of mine in action... They really are very handy. I'd never had one before I had kids, but since having kids I've had a few. I have a few friends who think that it's better to have a traditional family car, like an estate car, or a people carrier. And this is all well and good right up to the point where they want to take garden rubbish to the tip, or take their motorbikes to the track, or pull a big trailer, or do any number of family type activities that involve either big, heavy, or dirty things, and then they come unstuck. Me? If I want to take garden rubbish to the tip I don't bother bagging it up, I just shovel it in there and then hose it out afterwards. Same if I want to pick something up like my motorbike that was a little bit leaky, fling it in the back, and hose it out afterwards. Like I said, handy thing to have, and in all honesty when I had single cabs for work I hardly ever had the bed full Infact I think this was the only time I had the bed full on my single cab pick up... 1.2 tonnes of bare, clean copper wire, I had three loads about the same weight to take to the scrapyard too... Did ok for myself that day!
