I need to get a throttle cable for my bmw e30. It's a 316 with a weber so not that special. The problem I have is the normal bmw cables have barrels wand straight tubes on the end if I cut them off the cable is then too short.
So I'm thinking I need a custom cable, I've had a look on the Internet and none of them seem to do the right end for the pedal end. It's the usual hook fitting looks like a question mark shape.
Any suggestions?

You can get a block that fits to the end of your thottle pedal, providing that is your pedal is made of round bar

I usually use bicycle brake cables - the better quality ones with PTFE liner.

If you're going to try bike brake cables, there are three different ends, so worth looking at different ones to see if any suit. We used Road bike cables on a friends class 3 autograss car without any problems at all. All else fails, try somewhere like www.cable-tec.co.ukThey should be able to help

On the Scirocco I used a mountain bike brake cable with the cable end at the throttle body, then to clamp the pedal end I drilled a small hole in the shaft of an M-8 bolt (against the side of the head) and bolted it through the hole the hook used to go through so it clamped the cable against the side of the pedal. Works just fine.
With bike cables as well as the 3 different ends (mountain-bike brake, road brake and gear) they come in wound or braided varieties too, with the braided ones being quite a bit more resistant to fraying and kinking, and there usually stainless or galvanized options too. Gear cables and their corresponding outer casing are a touch smaller diameter.
Also if you need a really long cable, a rear one from a tandem bike is a good bet. Any good bike shop will cut the outer casing from a role to your specified length and then give you a choice of a few types of inner cable.

When I fitted a Nikki carb to my 1200 Beetle I made a 13' long choke cable out of bicycle bowden cable soldered into a choke knob from the "spares box". Worked fine. When throttle cable snapped I simply swopped over the choke cable and used that as a hand throtttle to get home Paul H
