VHT paint that actually goes to very high temperatures never seems to be very shiny, it always cures to a matt finish that likes to get oily and grubby.
On a rocker cover and an inlet manifold you'll get away with normal paint providing it's not something super tuned that gets dead hot.

It shouldent be too hot as I'm only running itb's on std bottom end but i will be turboing it soon when funds allow so don't wanna do them bits twice if i don't hafto. I had a look and the finish dosent look too bad when its used. There is still a part of me which is unsure tho so would like to see if anyone has used it its vht sp450 is the one I'm looking at

We paint all our engines with a higher temperature enamel paint. Rated to around 200 degC so well within the confines of a normal engine.
Only things like manifolds need 'proper' VHT paint

speaking of VHT paint for exhaust manifolds, I bought some of their red paint, thats supposed to be useable upto 1000c (ish), but after less than 200 miles driving the paint on the exhaust manifold had faded and burnt off. this engine was only used on short journeys and wasnt revved about 3000 rpm. the manifold was grit blasted before painting too. I then got some cheap high temp paint for exhausts off ebay (less than £7 inc. delivery), and that lasted much better

On my Rover P6 I've got normal cellulose paint on the rocker covers and they have not showed any signs of deteriorating over half a year. The turbo exhaust manifold is made from thinwall box steel and painted in barbeque paint, which is slowly deteriorating but I'm impressed it's lasted as long as it has considering what it is.
