I was thinking of getting a Volvo V70R for family duties and blasting down the autobahn at 150mph: It'll probably be standard and subtle with alloys so more like: So are there other 10 year old estates with 130mph+ capabilities? Obviously Audi RS4 but it's out of my £5k price range: And someone mentioned the Passat VR6: Which I guess is FWD. 4WD is better. Subaru Legacy? twin turbo? Difficult to maintain and vulnerable to electroni issues? If not, they're really cheap!: Is there a fast Mondeo or Vectra estate? A speedy Renault? Hmmm BMW 325 maybe: Too slow I think. The idea is to have something that looks like a family estate but that will pack a punch. Impreza WRX estate: Not exactly subtle. Maybe steels, plastic hubaps and a removal of the bonnet scoop and this one could pass. Any suggestions or comments on any of these welcomed. Charlie

JDM name escapes me now, but the hi-po version of the Galant estate.
What about Stagea?
I'd guess that your concerns about Legacy would apply to both these.......
About that VR6 Passat, did they do a Synchro version of it or would that have been LHD only?

A Stagea would be cool, and keep it in the family with the Bluebird. Legacys do seem like really good value at the moment too. Thinking a little bit further outside the box, what about a VR6 Caravelle? A big old E series (last of the W124) Merc could fit the bill too in 300TE guise?

ive had a go in a stagea it was incredibly dull. any e34 touring i think, they are just huge, cheap as chips and with the right engine (anything over 2.0) they are plenty fast enough for fast cruising.

E36 328i Sport? Ive always loved Legacy and Impreza Wagons as well. In fact I have had an Impreza Wagon built in my head for ages; White Coilovers (Wound down until its nearly touching the floor) SSR MK1s 15"x8/9 with a dirty stretch Full interior but Bride drivers seat and a massive tach about 300bhp and a RWD conversion! Anyone care to photoshop? anyway back on topic.......

I saw an RS2 in Coventry - drove past me about 3 times looking for a space. Pulled in, parked, instantly got ticketed by a Traffic Warden I have to say I'm not a fan of the looks though, really just doesn't do it for me - CANNOT fault the mechanicals and performance though ;D

^^^ I'd rather have the pacer....
Subaru Legacy all the way on the estate front.
My lass has had Legacy estates about 8 years, swears by them, she has a 2.2 at the moment. Affordable AWD that shifts even loaded up, never had any serious problems, just a bit thirsty at times. Theres some bargains to be had, can pick up the full leather and bodykit versions for reasonable money.

Audi RS2 makes me feel funny, the end! Oh, just to add, my girlfriend's brother has the Legacy GT J import twin-turbo estate and it's scary fast, plus, scary complicated in the engine bay! I've done a couple of little jobs on it and it's a nightmare to work on. He also has the older type Legacy 2.2 16v estate, now in a state of disrepair, but that was respectably quick for it's size and made an excellent noise too, much simpler with no turbo's etc.
