Gents and Ladies, A friend of mine with no interest in cars whatsoever is moving overseas and is looking to get rid of his 1982 Honda Accord. He's basically given me first right of refusal. I know nothing about these other than that they won the Wheels Car of the Year award in 1981 and were considered quite nice at the time. Like this one (which had better be the Best One Evar for that price) but the one I've been offered is the sedan: carpoint.com.au/used-car/HONDA/ACCORD/Victoria/1988581.aspxSo, R-R, work your magic, tell me about 1st generation Honda Accords :

That’s a nice looking one! All I really know is that they’re rare here and I would like one. The US mag’s seemed to like them, even our UK press were mildly enthusiastic. But as an ownership prospect 25 years down the line? For us rot would be the biggest issue, it’s a Honda so I doubt reliability would be a big issue. I think they use a cam belt (?), so check that’s been done (or get it done soon and factor that into price). Scrappylad is probably your best bet, think he owns a slightly later model like this one Mr_Bo11ox has just bought? 6 months ticket, £125 BIN?If bidding stays sensible I should be having a punt on an ’84 one this afternoon.

I don't know much about the 1st-gen ones, although I came across one in Burnham-on-Sea last year.
It was still owned by the old boy who bought it new - we had a quick chat. He told me that when he got the car, he decided that he'd only replace it when it was worn out or unreliable.
It'd done 215,000 miles by last june with only regular servicing and the odd wheel bearing etc. so he was feeling no need to change it yet. ;D And only had a few little rust scabs on!
