my mate has an austin devon which he is restoring along with 3 standard vangaurds.
right the question is with the austin. what colour should he paint the engine as we have it out at the moment. the car is a kind of red oxide type of colour, its a hard colour to describe, a bit like burgundy.
he has been told to paint the engine green by enthuisiasts but it looks really odd
does anyone know what colour they are supposed to be

Yeah, B series engines left the factory wearing that wonderful sludge green paint.

it don't match the colour of the car. black would look much better but i suppose this would be frowned upon by austin lovers

For a period "peformance" look you could paint it red as that's what colour MG B series were painted Stick an alloy rocker cover and twin carbs on it for full effect

Late 60's MGB lumps were a dark red, I think BL Damask Red's pretty close.

so the verdict is go for red anyway even thought the original should be green. suppose it doesnt matter as the car is not a standard colour anyway

Not sure what colour Chrysler Hemis normally are, think it's orange but then you wouldn't really see it for the 8-71 blower and Hilborn scoop hanging out the bonnet.........
