I need to replace the rear beam axle on my 1995 Pug 106 1.5D and have since found out how many variations there are on this model. I have sourced the correct axle (4 stud, non-ABS etc) and, having never performed this task before, need advice on what I'm up against before starting.
This will have to be done on the driveway too as the garage is full of sh!te!
My local garage (Kinnon's near Aberdeen. Great for Alfas esp!) said the labour charges for either swapping the axle or replacing the seized radius arm bearings would stretch to over £300 hence why I'm going to tackle it myself.
The car cost me £250 3 years ago and needed bu66er all for it's last two MOT's. Underneath it is solid and runs brilliantly which is another reason to try and extend it's lifespan. (There is a slight hint of inverted snobbery involved on my part as I like to park it next to a colleague's Toyota Prius and remind him of what cheap motoring really is ;D )
Any advice on this task is welcome. An offer to do it or help me for beer vouchers would be even better.
Cheers guys and gals
