Iv'e got, as the title states, a gear knob which is threaded to 10mm. the problem I have is the stick is an 8mm thread. Now I know there are hundreds of gear knobs out there that are 8mm before anyone say's "just buy a 8mm gear knob!" but I really want this one. So has anyone modded a gear knob before do you think if I wrap tape around the knob to pack it out this will do the trick? Any suggestion's welcome. Cheers

I don't really want to do anything as drastic as that, Anyway welding is a town that I haven't visited for quite some time.... I was just wondering if anyone knew of a technique/product that would be a quick and reversible solution.

What you want is a M10 stud with an M 8 thread in the middle...
Are they standard course threads (ie 10x1.5 and 8x1.25)?
Whereabouts are you?

I had same problem years ago when I wanted to fit a decent gearknob to my Reliant Supervan III :-) I cleaned the inside thread of the new knob with meths and when dry filled with Araldite then plonked it on the gear lever. When dry it worked fine and even unscrewed. Another idea is simply fit the knob with a 8mm Helicoil - even if you have to use bearing lock to hold it in place

Use that instant metal, the stuff that comes in a tube and you mix together. Even easier then Araldite!

oh man, how would i love to have access to machines that can create such things... Since this case is solved, i just wanted too add my homemade solution for the record: I used a dowel which i pressed in the shiftknob and then screwed it on the shifter. If the dowel is the right size it holds very strong and it costs close to nothing!

I like an idiot got the measurements wrong I for some reason thought that the thread on the stick was 8mm..... its not its 10mm so I needed a 10mm to 12mm adaptor poor kieran made me the 8mm to 10mm and did a great job, I just hope he can find it in his heart to make me a 10mm to 12mm now Beers on me??
