It just occured to me that we haven't done one of these in a while now, and that we didn't do a Friday Challenge this week, so I'll start a little challenge just now! The one who gets this one puts up the next one. So, NAME THAT CAR! ;D ;D For extra brownie points what's special about the engine and transmission?

Its a Gvang built in Austrailia in 1972 with a 2 cylinder STEAM engine! He got it! And the gearbox was special because the steam engine had so much torque that no gearbox was needed, or could handle the torque, so they never fitted one, the engine drove the back wheels directly! ______________________________________________ Not sure about what's odd about the Merc, but it does seem to have a rollcage or something, plus flared wheelarches, plus it seems to be a Pullman limousine model, plus it looks like it has rear wheel steering, it's a wierd one! ;D ;D

It's not some kind of French airport crash tender is it? I know Thrust SSC had a fire engine/crash tender based on a Jag XJR with a tuned supercharged V8 because no fire engine was fast enough to get to an emergency involving a car that fast in quick enough a time.

Close,Its an ex-AMG racer bought my Matra as a test bed for jet aircraft instuments . it was the only car in the world that could carry all those instruments and still accelerate from 0-200kmh in less than 1 kilometre! www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/9323/w109amg.htmHeres a shot of it in its racing days

Wasn't the engine bored out to 7 litres or something? Apparently it kicked out about 450 bhp!!! Didn't know it was Pullman bodied though - or was this changed later?
Aha, just read the website... all makes sense now! Now you've got me thinking about flared wheelarches!!

That'll be a prototype Renault Other than that, I'm completely stuck! Based on the Caravelle or Renault 10, perhaps, at a guess? An early take on a people carrier? The origins of the Espace?
