Free car insurance for 7 days * When you buy or list your car on eBay Motors
We have teamed up with Norwich Union Direct to offer you free comprehensive insurance for seven days on cars bought on eBay Motors *. Now it's even easier to pick up your car and quicker to get on the road.
If you list a car on eBay Motors, this offer is available to you for your next car.
Your free seven-day car insurance will include:
fully comprehensive coverage Unlimited legal liability for death or injury to any person Up to £5m legal liability cover for damage to other people's property Medical expenses, personal injury and legal protection
Norwich Union Direct will also provide you with a competitive, no-obligation quote to insure your car for 12 months. Regardless of whether or not you take up this annual policy, you will still receive your seven-day car insurance cover note, provided that you and your car qualify for this service *.
This is what the ebay page says, BUT - i recently bought a car off ebay - and never received the Norwich Union code number and 'special' freephone number - i complained and was basically fobbed off
Yesterday, (Sunday) - i sold another car through Ebay Motors - and still did not receive the free seven days insurance - i have complained again and expect to be fobbed off AGAIN
Has anyone ever successfully used this 'free offer'?
or is it just another ebay scam?

I've used it before as a buyer from Ebay. Rung the number, got the cover. It wasn't even a 'cancel it once the free bit is up or we charge you automatically' job either. I didn't give them any card or bank details.

I used it when I won the Volvo, but I didn't get the details when I won the Lada, and listed the Allegro and Lada I thought it was for every car but sometimes it doesn't seem to send the details? Just checked what details I got when I won the Ovlov and all it says is ring 0800 4046940 and quote EBAY, you could just try giving them a call and see what happens?

Yeah I used it okay on the Volvo, they gave a stupid quote of £3000 though ;D I even managed to use the printed cover note to tax it which you are not supposed to do but the lady in the post office obviously did not know that I would give them a call and see what happens, think they stay open till 10PM

Not a 100% sure how you are contacted but the car must be in the car section (sorry for stating the obvious here but it doesnt apply to cars listed in other sections) and its got to have MOT and possibly road tax listed in the appropriate sections I believe.
I have been contacted when I bought a car that was MOT`ed but wasnt when it wasnt.
how did they fob you off?
I know Tonycocacola used it no problem when he bought his 500SEC off ebay last year

I rang up when I bought my Datsun on the 'bay. I repeated what it was several times, and eventually the guy said 'I'm having computer problems, sorry. Goodbye.'
I just stuck it on my main policy as an extra car instead.

I used it.... note that it's the BUYER that takes advantage of it, not the SELLER.... I got an email through once the sale had been completed, rang up, they asked for the ebay ID i think and confirmed that I was covered for a week.
They do make you go through a full quote but it only takes a few minutes, and you don't have to give any payment details so it's no-obligation (in fact you'd have to ring back to take them up on it)

As a buyer i've used it a few times, and have driven the car around for the full 7days, as they said was ok, pretty good if you ask me!

You don't get a seperate e-mail, its for the buyer only, and details appear at the bottom of the 'You've won the item' e-mail you always receive when you win an item. Its the only time it will appear, and the only time you may take advantage of it.
I've never needed to yet though.
