A fellow forum user suggested I post my car up here, so here it goes:
Hi and welcome to the sale of my 1997 Mercedes E300TD
The car has an MOT until June 2013.
Tax until the end of March 2013.
3 former owners (all from the same family, Father, Son and then Sons wife).
The car has a Full Service History. Mercedes Benz until 100,000 and then independent thereafter, last service at 139,200 (with receipt and book fully stamped).
Current mileage is 144,700 (will rise slightly as still in daily use).
New front disks and pads fitted in my ownership (with receipt). That's about it, I haven't really had to spend anything else apart from regular servicing (receipts included).
I bought the car initially as a stop gap when I sold my previous car, I have ended up keeping it almost a year and a half! Having finally found a replacement, I am offering this one up for sale.
Passed its MOT in June with advisories for low tyre wear only! I have the MOT prior to that also, there were NO advisories. I have replaced the fronts and had the tracking done, the rears will need replaced soon (although there is a nearly brand new Pirelli on a steel wheel as a spare in the boot). When I got the car back after having the tracking done, the steering wheel was out by 45degrees. The garage wanted to charge me for the privilege of fixing this, I just left it as it does not bother me.
The car cleans up really well but the bodywork is not as good as the mechanicals I am afraid. It's not bad for a 15year old car but there are scratches on most panels (although light) and there is a dent in the rear driver side door. This was caused by an industrial bin blowing into the car in the high winds last February whilst it was parked at my work.
The arches have been treated and painted at some point prior to my ownership but the rust is starting to come through on them again.
The car occasionally 'hunts' (erratic idle) when in Park mode. It did this for the previous owner also and has never caused me any concern and has not got any worse in the time I have owned it.
The previous owner also though the drop link bushes would need replaced for an MOT. There is sometimes a knock from the suspension when going over bumps. 2 new drop links are included in the sale. As the car passed its last 2 MOT's without these needing replaced, I have not replaced them.
The rear passenger electric window does not work. This is due to the regulator failing (common on these cars). There is a brand new one supplied with the sale, again this was provided by the previous owner.
The passenger side fog light bulb needs replaced.
There is only 1 key.
If you are looking for a show winner, this probably isn't the car for you. If you are looking for a well known Mercedes workhorse with well documented history, that will go forever, you have just found it. I have put over 20,000miles on this car and it has never let me down once, just turn the key and go.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
