Now i'm bored with my modern car already! Just bought a 2007 Jetta Sport. Does its job, but its very clinical in its nature.
I'm just about to sell my VW Touran and my Skoda Fabia - so I have a few £££ burning a hole. I sat all day on ebay (dangerous I know) to think about what car i'd like to buy. went through all the usual mk1 & Mk2 Golfs (VW man at heart - 38 in 15 years!) But my search brought up an early XR3 & XR3i - which instantly sparked my interest.
Any ideas? (don't tell my Swimbo! I promised no more cars on the driveway! But i can always park the Jetta on the road......)

Every time someone mentions Mk3 Escorts I post this article, because it's great. ;D

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

Never owned a mk3, but I owned two mk4 XR3i's really good cars, one of my favourite hot hatches even if it's probably the slowest out of its peers. I felt like a hooligan every time I drove my red one, love how revvy and eager the CVH felt.
DO IT!

I LOVE Mk3's and always wanted one because all my mates had them back in the very early 90's (while I had a Mk2 Cavalier which I also love)
Many fond memories of 'lads' weekends away in a Mk3 1.6 Ghia or a black RS1600i...even a white XR3i cabriolet (it was cool at the time!)
I recently bought a Mk3 and love it to bits. It's not an XR3i, RS Turbo or RS1600i, it's not even a 3dr (or even a 3dr Estate) so I won't post up any pics, but all I can say is...GET ONE...they are so overlooked and so underated.
Luckily they are very, very far removed from their boy racer days although some traces of this era still remain through tacky mods (the red brake 'discs' and FOrd badges on the front wings on the burgandy one above for example).
[edit] and I think I'm in the minority that prefers them without the obligatory spotlights! Especially on non-RS & XR models. [/edit]

See what I mean! I may have found one - I spoke to a guy lastnight who may have a Mk3 3dr 1.6 Ghia with the full XR3 kit and interior in it. Going to look at it this weekend - Its been off the road for 11 years. And its only got about 50K on it! He's just not sure about selling it yet!

i love em, i had orions back in the 90's and had a great time in them, i would love a more door as i think they are more sleeperish drop in a nice zetec motor or old school rs turbo lump and keep it looking factory except for either banded steels or a nice set of mondeo 5 spokes

Man I would love a mk3 xr3i, even when I passed my test in 98 there were no good ones about, looked at a few but they were rotting big time! From memory the early mk4s were even worse. Born too late!

I went and looked at the car. No pics sorry - he wouldnt let me take any however its this colour (thanks to whoever I stole it from!) its pretty dirty looking - its been sat in a garage for years. the drivers side door has a dent and the rear bumper is missing. But its complete and could be fixed Its got 90 spec lattice alloys, and the xr3i front splitter & interior.
