EQUIPMENT
Integral steel body, chrome body detailing, chrome side mirrors, Volvo mud-flaps, laminated glass, padded dashboard, strip speedometer, individual front seats, two speed heater fan, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, padded sun visors, safety steering wheel, horn ring on steering wheel, foot dimmer switch, cigarette lighter, electrical wipers.
EXTERIOR
A beautiful condition one Volvo PV544 finished in factory original Midnight Blue, (Colour Code 31) by Ian Bone & Sons, Carlisle. This stunning car has a deep gloss lustre that looks incredible. All the chrome, trim and badging shines and remains intact and correct. One wing top has tiny marking and the front grille has discoloured slightly. All four optional Volvo mud-flaps are still fitted and remain in excellent condition. An exemplary Volvo suitable for a discerning collector.
INTERIOR
The Volvo PV544 Special II was the most luxurious of the four variants offered in the Swedish market and this interior is wonderful. Upholstery code 22-141 gives the Blue/Grey finish with salt ‘n’ pepper fabric. None of the models were fitted with carpets so the flooring still retains the original grey Volvo rubber covering in excellent order. All the gauges function correctly including the ‘thermometer’ style speedometer. The two speed interior fan is inoperative and the indicators are slow at times. The black rubber boot mat is undamaged and the spare is still fitted with a cross-ply tyre. A beautifully preserved interior.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Volvo PV544 is fortunately still fitted with the original B16A four cylinder engine making it correct in every manner. Incredibly the optional Motovarmare, (engine block heater) is still fitted to aid cold starting. With the Zenith down-draught carburettor this engine produces a respectable 65bhp at 4500rpm and runs perfectly. The 6 volt battery has one yellow cap missing but the plastic cover is still in place. The four speed floor mounted transmission is solid and reassuring.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Pressed balanced steel wheels with immaculate and correct chrome Volvo hubcaps are shod in new Marshal steel radial 165 R15 tyres. Self-centering hydraulic drum brakes all-round require a firm application compared to modern standards.
HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in 1958, the launch year of the Volvo PV544, this vehicle remained in the Swedish home market until 1997. It belonged to a retired Volvo mechanic who had two identical vehicles in Midnight Blue, (photographs of the two vehicles exist), this particular one he kept in storage and planned to use when his daily runner gave up. Those familiar with the PV range will understand that his daily runner never did give up explaining the wonderful condition of this example. Having only had the one UK owner since coming to the UK this vehicle will make a new owner immensely proud.
Original handbook contained in the black Volvo wallet and spare keys all present.
MOT June 2013, Tax exempt and HPI Clear.
