Refitted the diff Saturday, which took longer than expected so I didn't get round to fitting the rear ARB the reason why the diff was a pain to refit was the drive shafts, which would slide in easily when the diff was on the bench, but where being a right PITA once the diff was bolted up to the car! Anyway after much rolling around and teasing with a hammer they eventually went in. Photo of inside of said diff (well it's not really a diff anymore, more of a final drive)... Also fitted the wheel nuts, which also seem to seat better than the original ones I had. Oh and I covered the back window with stickers, BECAUSE DRIFT CAR!!!!!!

Howdy-doodly-do, how's it going? Right update times! The plan last Saturday was to go drifting at Smeatharpe, then head on to A52 for the evening, then head to the Beach Party. Although between cones and bad weather neither A52 nor the Beach party happened Anyway at least the drifting was good ;D This was the first event for the Sierra so I didn't know what to expect TBH. But the suspension bits have really transformed it, compared to how a standard Sierra drifts. Although it's not quite as easy to skid as the Omega or E34, it's loads more rewarding when you get it right! You have to put in loads of driver input, but feels really composed and tight, if that makes sense. Some photos... A screenshot of some GoPro footage I got too... There is a few more floating about which I'll post later. Had a great day until later in the afternoon when I caught a pile of cones under the bumper which killed the radiator took out the rad... ...to find I'd snapped the mount off the end cap... ...a quick trip to Honiton services to get some Araldite and this was the result... ...although it seemed okay I didn't want to risk getting half way to A52 to get stranded. So the weekends plans were cut short thankfully the bodge did get me home, so I can't complain too much! Seeing as I've got to take the rad out and drain the coolant anyway, I thought it was a good idea to replace the heater matrix which seemed to give off a faint coolant smell when warming up. So spent last night taking the matrix out... ...judging by the small pool of dried coolant on the transmission tunnel I feel like I've made the right choice... ...new vs. old... ...just gotta put it all back together lol!

Liking the sierra.
Just seen the diff. Arc is not so good for doing them, had one lock up caused by the weld spatter jamming in the CROWNwheel to pinion. TIG is best and easy to do. I just weld the side gears to the centre case and the centre pin to the 2 planet gears. Done about 7 years on my welder :0)

Gonna make it up next month? Possibly although after Wheels Day and the Misses birthday I'm proper broke lol. Fingers crossed though! Hopefully i'll be at the august one so will hopefully see you not hit any cones that time! Guy Yeah I got home fine changed the rad and it all seems good. Hopefully the weather at the August one will be better. Planning to drag the Delta? Liking the sierra. Just seen the diff. I just weld the side gears to the centre case and the centre pin to the 2 planet gears. Done about 7 years on my welder :0) Thanks, yeah the diff is a little noisier now. But I want to swap the rear over to a bolt on drive shaft type at some point so not too fussed as long as it holds up. Right a few more self whoring shots from Smeatharpe... Picked up a bargainous £5 harness from a stand at Wheels Day... ...so hopefully get the seat and harness in, in the next couple of weeks. After Wheels Day a few of us popped back to TAB for banter, lols and car related shenanigans. I mentioned to HC that I was annoyed that my Gaz coilovers didn't come with helper springs. This meant every time I jacked the rear of the car up you had to be careful when lowering it back down, otherwise the springs didn't seat properly. A few minutes later I found myself in the ownership of some small red helper springs from TAB's parts bin, thanks to HC and Colon for their hospitality and help, had a great time ;D MAN BOOBS OR GTFO!!!! Anyway the result of the helper springs...

Right got the car back from the bodyshop ;D MASSIVE thanks to Gliddon Ford for sourcing a brand new Sierra bumper and AD Coachworks for repairing the wing and painting it all. Only problem is that the rest of the car now looks a little tatty, plus Adam was reluctant to paint the bonnet as he said it had been fillered and painted before. For the effort and time it would take to get it to a decent standard, I'd be better off getting a good second hand bonnet to paint. So I'll probably look at doing that. I'm hopefully going to attack the scratches over the weekend to see if I can get rid of the worst of it. The cheap redrilled steering wheel boss was doing my head in, it looked fugly and the holes weren't drilled quite right. So I bought a proper boss, looks much better and the steering wheel sits where it should... Another job for the weekend is sorting the exhaust out, firstly I could do with some kind of drainpipe affair out the back and secondly I've discovered a that the "little" exhaust blow has become a full blown crack... ...thought it sounded a bit throaty lol!

Looks like a good repair there mate, it's never easy to get those sort of things to look natural.
I love the ring pull in the middle of your steering wheel and am looking forward to seeing the quad 6" exhaust too.

Been thinking about making an exhaust pipe for the Sierra for a while and wasn't too keen on a run of the mill back box. I always liked the pipe Rich welded on to Butterz' Volvo 360 which was a kind of large single shotgun style affair. So that was the plan. Had a quick scratch round the unit and found a large length of 2.5" stainless steel pipe which looked suitable, the only problem I had was the angle at which I wanted it to exit the bumper meant that it interfered with the spare wheel well. So to aid access, I cut a large section of the wheel well out. Like this... Next I supported the exhaust with the jack and cut the back box off, it was still a one piece exhaust so it might have been the original but the box was rotten anyway. Thanks to my mate Dave in this next shot for his modelling abilities... Next we tacked the pipe and bracket in place, then dropped the whole exhuast off to weld it on properly and to repair the crack at the front... Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the crack, but the pipe had cracked all the way round except for about 2cm at the top. I welded this up too, although I'm not sure how long it will last as the exhaust in general wasn't in great condition. Any the result is a pretty quiet exhaust at idle, which IMO has a nice rasp higher in the revs. It's loud but not overly so. Anyway photos of the end product... Although I ran out of time so I've still got the hole in the boot lol! Hopefully I'll pop up the unit over the next few days and weld a plate in In other news I've changed the number plates for legal pressed metal ones... ...and after months of the fuel cap flapping about everytime I exceded 20mph I finally took the latch apart stuck in a plastic nut in behind the spring to increase the tension. Result the flap stays shut even under hard driving.
