With a bit of Christmas money and work bonus I treated myself to the above, this is what found it's way to me from sellers in Australia, Holland and Berkhamsted....... JDM version of 323 known as Familia there. This the facelift model like my old green one, but different front indicator/sidelight unit and no (ugly) separate repeater. 5dr version of above, oddly with window in C-pillar which our's never got. Some kind of range brochure/show catalogue. 126X and 270X on front both made by Matchbox in their thousands. 315X electric car, cuter than a Smart! As Ed says, never seen the open version before. We had a travel blanket with that tartan seat pattern.... Ed says this 510 estate is steam-powered! Same catalogue also shows prototypes with airbags, electric monitoring devices and gas turbines. Both above Oz-spec Colts, maybe built there? They got 1.6 in some models. Mazda 929 coupe, Dutch brochure. Front has pop-up lights, different to normal saloon, which is different to 4dr hardtop........ Australian B10 1000, Sunny in some markets. Oz-spec Ford Telstar, Mazda 626 with an odd front end to you and me. Another Ford-badged Mazda, Laser became 323. This is the facelift, earlier Laser got square front like Familia saloon below. You could go on forever trying to work this kind of stuff out.....

Last batch for tonight........ Seth, that 315X thing is cute isn't it? Never seen the open one before (P.S.you rung about that car yet?). Vista, alternative version of Camry for sale through a different dealer chain. We only got 4dr, USA got 5drs like this too. These three all from same Tercel brochure. Saloon at bottom similar to the 3/5dr hatch and 4wd estate we got, but crazy little hatchbacks new to me. That pop-up light version is only on the 3dr, but you could get the 5dr's nose on a 3dr too, just to add to the confusion. Cherry E10, never 100A in Japan. These quite late versions, E10 was replaced in Japan about 1974/75 but Europe and other markets liked it so much they kept it going, F10 replacement was bigger. Prince Royal Limo (20 built?) and early version of President from 1968 range brochure. I think this is still the old RWD estate, but with high roof. Comes from same brochure as this \/ I love this one. Got 4A-GE engine. Get you! Factory-built Homy "Camping Car", by Nissan's Autech division. Mega rear overhang on Type III version. This is earlier Japanese Familia version of 323, same front that Australian Ford Laser got. I like it. 929 saloon, Dutch brochure again. Think you can get rotaries in these, got a JDM brochure tucked away too. That'll do for now, must sleep! A few more to go from the latest acquisitions, with stuff like Celeste, Sigma and others. Good to get a bit of practice in with the new scanner, seem to have got to grips with simultaneously scanning, modifying, uploading and posting - there'll be a LOT more of this sort of thing to be seen on a site near you soon......

Some pretty smart stuff there! I'll have to crank up my scanner again, have a load of odd Japanese market brochures including the seemingly never ending Daihatsu Mira accessories brochure. Makes me smile because in the UK your only accessories were mudflaps and floor mats, whereas Japan has half a dozen different radios to select from alone!

And you've managed to reply in that time, that Corolla I love too! That grille is mad, it's like the ones you get on the CROWN! Does the badge say TWIN CAM 16?

Yup, it says Twin Cam 16, as it's the 1600GT model with 4A-GE engine. The SE version has a super-plush interior. That's what I like about JDM brochures - you realise how what we got was blanded down from the home market offerings, and how good they can look.

One of my favourite brochures is "Mira House", the Japanese Daihatsu Mira accessories brochure. I think the UK accessories were mudflaps and floormats and that was it.
Whereas in Japan you can get a 23 page brochure containing amongst other things: - Parking poles mounted on the front bumper (various designs) - An old rally style roofrack specifically for the Mira Classic - Huge decal stickers including a Tamagotchi version of Godzilla going "MIRARARA" An entire page devoted to chrome trim versions of things including headlights, indicator surrounds, window surrounds - Rear window louvres - Rain-repellent glass - 11 different designs of floormat - 2 types of first aid kit - An umbrella pouch - A small school-style desk below the steering wheel so you can continue to do work in traffic jams - A blue remote control which I believe turns the engine on and off remotely - Weather prediction gauge - All the cupholders you'd ever want - Nearly 20 optional radios (seriously!!)
Oh, and wind deflectors. They sure like them in Japan.

Would love to know what's going on with this one. Ed? believe it or not, I believe that's a steam powered 510 estate! I know Nissan dabbled with steam power systems during the 1970's and I have got an illustration of that estate in another publication but that's the first time i've seen a picture of the real thing. Is that in the 1970 Tokyo Motorshow brochure? Hope so as i've just scored one of those off ebay. It had to be worth it just for the cover art alone! I've never seen that open cockpit 315X before either. I always assumed they only made one example of that car. Interesting to know there may have been more. i wonder is any still exist. The 126X does I believe. Love that odd looking Tercel hatchback with the pop-up headlights. Looks slightly futuristic Those facelift Colts are odd too. Amazing how such small changes make the car look so much more modern.

Ahh I am proper loving this, and I think the name is excellent!!! Sad story: I tried to buy a beige one of these that a garage in Bury St Edmunds had part-ex'd (at a value of £100). They wouldn't sell it to me because they said it was bad for their reputation to sell "cars like that". A couple of years later I saw it round the back of the garage, all smashed up and covered in moss.

What was the reputation of it then? I mean its a ford they are never really THAT bad. It's a Mazda 626 really, sold (and locally built?) as Telstar in Australia. Same deal with that Ford Laser actually being a 323 like the one I had. I'm going to go through and add what they are now it's a sensible time of day. Agree with HoTWire about the 'shopability of these pictures - the JDM ones in particular always have great 'reference' shots of each model on a nice clean background.

I've somehow managed to collect over 3000 scans from the web, just by clicking myself senseless while I pretend to work... lots of old Japanese ads and brochures, and cheaper than buying... did buy a few old Toyota brochures, and I cherish them.
