Sorry if this is a repost but there is a petition started up to try and get the cut off date for tax exemption of historic vehicles moved. Click on the link to access it. petitions.pm.gov.uk/historiccartax/Smiler.

A re-re-post which STILL will not work, no matter how many people sign it. The only change to the historic tax legislation that will ever come about is abolition of the entire scheme.

nobody expected the free road tax would come off. Governments do giveaways to please sections of the population all the time. Its called vote buying and there is a general election coming in which Labour will have a new leader so he is at liberty to change old policies without it looking like a U-turn and lets face it, then next one could see them out. They will buy every vote they can get.

wouldnt abolishing any black box gps plans 'buy' a 100% turnout and 100% landslide victory?

Nope.
1. the greenies won't like it 2. wealthy pro-control types won't like it. They want us all data tagged anyway. 3. people who think this will save them money won't like it. 4. some people vote for the same party every time regardless of theior policies.
Theres a lot of hoo-hah with people like us and no doubt the readers of the Daily Mail but I'll be therese a large % of the population who either think its a good thing or just don't care either way.
I can imagine my parents being in favour of this as they have reasonably large vehicles and do fairly low miles, mostly off peak due to them being retired now. Never underestimate the grey vote. Like 99% of people over the age of 55 voye whereas like 1% of people under 25 vote. Or something.

The thing is democracy is supposed to work by people convincing other people (in large numbers) than an idea is a good one. Not "take it or leave it, what, you wanna vote for the Tories now?" which I suspect is going to be Gordon Brown's manifesto. Thats basically what the last labour one was.
I understand David "Dave" Cameron has already signed off on "Oh lord, please not that Scottish git" as a campaign slogan.

A re-re-post which STILL will not work, no matter how many people sign it. The only change to the historic tax legislation that will ever come about is abolition of the entire scheme. although this is my worry, its worth having a say at the stuffed suits and office dwellers! yeah they have some daft and corrupt plans we'll hate, but if we don't protest, even by electronic signature or more hands on methods they'll continue to squish us into a small controllable blob or right outta the country! if this was to work its a bonus but its the other plans they have that bug me more, tax is a cost i'm currently ok with but not coupled with rising crippling other taxes...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
