Of all the cars I've sold (including parents and other family cars) I've seen vvery few of them ever again. Obviously cars sold to mates or family memmbers you see again but cars sold outside the "clan"?
I saw my old Kadett sold in 1989 a couple of months later just driving through town.
I saw my dad's old Mercedes about 5 years after he sold it, again just driving through town. That was really weird because when he sold it she was a minter and when it was seen again it looked ratty and a big fat bloke was driving it.
I came across a Victor 2000 I sold to a mate and he sold on after that, in a scrap yard...
I saw my old Victor V8 in the pages of Classic & Sportscar or similar once.
I saw my old Chrysler on a web page the third owner after me had put up pictures of it.
Out of about 50 cars thats a pretty poor show.
I've run some of the number plates, most of the ones i can remember and many of them come up "unknown" or haven't been taxed since I last did them!

Well there's at least 4 cars I have previously owned that are now in the hands of other Retro-Riders! Most of the stuff from my early days of motoring.. I was the 'end user' ;D ..... they either finished up scrapped, raced, exported or stolen. More recent stuff all comes up as alive and well on DVLA checks, but given alot has gone to distant locations chances of a random spot are unlikely. Do still see my Dad's old FSO Polonez rattling about - amazingly it seems to have escaped the clutches of rust that fizzled away those which didn't succumb to mechanical failure.... Still with it's second owner too (old boy, must be at least 85! )

I see my dad's old Cobra every now and then. He also used to have a show winning Pontiac Tempest but that disappeared off the face of the earth and no-one has seen it which is strange in such a small scene because it's such a rare car.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

I'm in the rarely sell, drive till only fit for scrap catagory
I don't tend to sell them but I have had a few extra Senators over the years that have gone to new homes.
Most are still runing according to DVLA in the case of the ones that went further afield but I only see the ones that were sold to other "club" members so maybe it's the same as "clan"
Local sales
I used to see my old Monza GSE auto about but I think thats died now and I haven't seen one of my 12V Senators for at least 2 years so I reckon thats toast too!!!

I did! My Mk 1 Triumph 2000 - got it from my great uncle, ran it around for a bit, and then sold it to go back to Uni for a PG course. Next time I saw it the car had been painted red, slammed on Revos and was now a historic racer. It was back up for sale in a dealer's up north last year....

I've 'sold' a couple to the local scrappy, then seen them again whilst wandering round a week or so later... Does that count?

I got an email: good man! elbow grease+ker-nowledge+hardwork and enthisiasm=result! Wow! That quite a transformation! I missed that capri saga somehow, I was probably on here very little back then though. I've only ever scrapped one of my cars (Rover P6, R.I.P ) but only ever seen one of my previous cars ever again- a horrific Mk5 Escort that I baught as a total write off, re-paneled, then crashed again, then taken out to some country roads to thrash to death bofore I took it to the scrapyard, but the scrapyard fella told me he'd have it for himself to fix up, which it seems he did..... H478 EDX I think it was, if you see it, don't buy it whatever you do

HaHa how wierd with the mk5 escort. similarly my ex-housemate 18 months ago sold a '95 Escort mk5 'diseasel that he'd crashed looking at some girls. ;D He had it fixed, not best but acceptable enough for a mk5! he advertised it in autotrader (as he was moaning about Manchester insurance costs ironically enough) for £750, best thing about it was basic CD player, he got £700, I still cant believe that! totally expected the guy to come back! I had that Crapi Street before I joined, thought i'd already bored people with it enough! ;D I lost interest, it spent so long at the mechanics place and I lost interest and wanted to change too much. I advertised it online, had a pile of scammers then that man bought it and did it proud! as seen on ebay! I did also see a curse word micra of mine once, second time it was in the scrappers!

My first car, M864 RCF. S13 200SX, part-ex'd it against a K12 Micra when I moved back to the North West (Oldham, about 4 months after the riots.. insurance = nah..), left it at the dealers in a sorry state I'm afraid to say - lampost shaped destruction in the rear bumper, a crack from side to side of the windscreen and a few hastily done de-modifications. Apparently still taxed, and obviously on the road somewhere! Although I've never seen it.. The K12 Micra I just abused. MT52 MRO. After losing the love of my life to misfortune, and then being forced to get rid because I couldn't afford the insurance yet alone the put-right money. I bought it from new, and just drove it into the ground. Nissans' ineptitude to fix a simple overheating problem left it off the road for almost a year of the three I had it. A moment of not-switching-brain-on left it with a nice scrape down the side (Parking bollard, reverse parked, forgot it was there when I pulled out ). Ended up 'paying' £600 for Nissan to take it away when the initial finance agreement expired, although they never actually collected the money that was outstanding. Hasn't been taxed since they took it off me about 14 months ago, so it's probably just sitting in some yard somewhere feeling very sorry for itself, so again, never seen.. I'd be keen to see what's become of the SX, but I'm sure fate will cross our paths at some point in the future...

I quite randomly checked the dvla website the other day for the last 3 cars i sold, all with tax and mot in good working order. None are currently taxed, not since october (all ran out at a similar time, i had all 3 at once...). SO they are all being restored (in one case it may have been necessary) or what? Maybe i got rid just in time.... I scrapped the first car i ever bought (Renner 5), got £45 for it, about what it was worth i think.

My GT4 and it's twin are both local to me. Didn't know the buyer, but knew he was fairly close.
Nice to see it going "Pttttssccchh" as it drives past.
