OK nothing really modified but a small amount of car (modern though) related content, but ther ehave been a few photography related threads before. I recently read some magazine articles about night time photography and light trails, this is my first attempt; Coped Hill, Royal Wootton Bassett by Country Photo (UK), on Flickr Well it's a Land Rover garage and the shot was taken from the roof of my Discovery (tripod on roof me standing on rear bumper). Taken at about 5pm tonight. Not great but a start, need to find a better location.

Night photography is something I really want to do more of...it's such a different thing to photographing stuff in the day. These two shots were my first ever attempts at light trails - not an exciting location at all but I guess we all have to start somewhere. I really need to do more of this sort of stuff....

Living a mile and a half from M4 J16 really should go down there one evening. The first shot was an attempt to have light trails in front of a lit building. Want to try having the camera in (or on) the car next. Checkout this blog longexposuretips.blogspot.co.uk/

Always liked these kinda of shots...they work well with my box brownies....have you tried going out at night away from light pollution and pointing at the stars? That always looks good....

did this a couple of years ago, about 5 mins or so on this exposure. all you really need for this stuff is a remote timer and something sturdy to sit your camera on. using RAW instead of jpeg is also a benefit as you have more control over the exposure when post processing. something that can be handy when you do exposures which last minutes.

Did some handheld in the forest rally shots on the Tempest last week. Its difficult and I need a proper flash rather than the on camera one. I was lucky enough that the three media bibs next to me fired their flashes when I took this one!

Use a remote shutter release, or the timer to avoid moving the camera. If you can't get a long shutter speed reduce the ISO (to 100) and use a small aperture (F16 and above), if it's still not long enough you need to use Neutral Density (ND) filters, it's like putting sun glasses on

For daylight I stack the ND filters, and ND8 & ND4 at f22 and ISO100 gives a longish exposure. Have heard of people using welding glass though.

i did the welding glass thing once, you have to be pretty good at getting the white balance right though and sorting the colours in post.
it gives you a green and black image, which you then modify to get the colours back.

The Citroen photo is welding glass I pre-set the white balance in the camera by taking a photo of a piece of paper. Still needed some small adjustment and maybe it still does (?) but as I'm colour blind I just let the technology do its thing and think it looks OK as it is.
