Well i have done it again . I have bought a 1972 scimitar gte . It has been stood at least 4 years and the paintwork looks like its been applied with a steam cleaner. But its got potential Good points- solid chassis Good(ish) engine stainless exhausts working overdrive almost all electrics work!! Bad points- Paintwork sh*te interior needs fettling previous owner used offcuts of beige carpet glued in! needs bit of fibreglassing at rear end clutch slave cylinder leaking No mot so first job is to get an mot on it then i can do it as a rolling project. don't think it will need much to get through test, couple of suspension bushes and free brakes off Paul

Thanks guys, definately one worth saving. Yep the front of the engine is behind the axle, almost mid engined . As for fibreglass work - there is a crack in the rear above the n/s rear tail light and a small crack in the nsr wheel arch( would eventually like to build some wide arches if i ever get confident enough to tackle it ) and a bit around the front indicator pods. Got to re-learn the dark art of fibreglassing Paul

I do like the earlier GTEs like this one . The Chrome suits them quite well. This should make for a great car once it is done. They also happen to look great when dropped a touch and put onto Revolutions .

Lovely...! I have always fancied a Scimitar and it is an itch I am going to have to scratch soon...!!! So, what are your plans for this old GTE?! Is it going to be standard or a bit on the tweaked side...? I shall be keeping a close eye on this one! Good luck sir

Hello, over here too, Marsie !
Will you have to take the engine out? I got mine and gearbox out in one unit. It's a long reach in with a standard engine hoist. I had to lengthen the arm on mine to reach in far enough to the front of the engine. Even so I could only lift it up and forwards part way, then reposition to lift it more centrally.
I'm sure an extended hoist arm with an Essex and gearbox hanging on the end is not recommended by the hoist manufacturer!

Ooh, very nice. I have back burner plans for an SE5a. Though saying that I also have back burner plans for a Triumph 2500 saloon, a TR7, a Rover SD1 and a few others. But the Scimitar is one of the few I keep returning to.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the car?
