Hi folks,
My car is supposed to be going tomorrow, the tax ran out a few days ago so i went to renew it and because my insurance ran out on the same day the tax was due to start, it wouldnt let me tax it. At that point, i sorned it to avoid a fine using the V11.
The new owner is coming to collect it tomorrow, theyve got insurance on it, its mot'ed its just not taxed, and being that its a sunday i cant go to a post office and do it, because they're shut, and i just tried to do it online as their insurance starts tomorrow, and its saying:
"As there has already been a successful transaction for this vehicle a new transaction cannot be undertaken at this time. You will need to apply for the tax disc or declare SORN at a licence-issuing Post Office® or DVLA Local Office (as applicable for the vehicle) using the reminder (Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration) or the Registration Document/Certificate together with the Insurance Certificate or Cover Note, MOT Test Certificate/GVT Test Certificate (if applicable) and fee. "
What can i do about that? Even the phones arent open sunday...
Heeeeelp

You can't tax because you don't have valid insurance. New owner can't tax because it's still registered in your name at present on DVLA records. Sorry but nothing you or new owner can do before Monday. Then they can take section 10 of the V5 to a Post Office and tax otherwise it's wait a week or so until DVLA update the records to show the new owners details if they want to do it on-line. Just don't let them drive away tomorrow unless you have the V5 completed showing date of transfer as 4/11/12 otherwise if they get caught by a ANPR camera then the fine will come to you.

I don't know how true it is but its worth a shot Hero, found one a couple of miles away that opens sundays, at least according to the post office website, that seems the best plan of action right now!

Sorry but I read that as it HAS been taxed? A SUCCESSFUL transaction? Double check on the .gov website first. You can tax a car online that's insured by someone else, all that happens is the disc will turn up at your house not the new keepers. Done this a few times (in fact it says this on the dvla website). Unless its a typo and you mean it was UN successful. Otherwise as above find a Sunday po,there's a few about.

It says successful because by transaction it means i used the V11 form to SORN it, i have to tax at a PO now.
Also, did a search, none of the sunday opening ones do tax, scuppered again...

Does it say how long before it can be taxed online? Prehaps it will work tommorow once Gina's insurance is sorted?

Just make sure all paperwork is complete to prove he's the new owner and let him driver home. If he taxes it at first opportunity then it'll automatically back date and all will be well

Its just a case of if i get caught driving a car home without tax, not sure on the consequences and how the police would take the whole situation.

I don't think there's a legal solution to that situation unless you delay the handover of the car to be able to sort it with an open post office.

just bought it + sunday + valid insurance cover = no problem at all. Especially as the car was taxed to end of last month!

Ring the local plod and ask them. They'll probably say don't use it. Personally I'd wait until next week and use the new keeper bit of the v5c. Here's a story... My brother went to tax his polo after it had been stored in a garage for 2 years on sorn. When he got the new mot he went to tax it and the dvla records showed it as taxed already but they still sold him one. I reckon he must have been taxing it instead of sorning it, he's a bit thick like that, but then he'd need the mot and insurance.... It doesn't make any sense to me.... And the previous owner of my BMW didn't tax it for four years and had been through anpr checkpoints, had ol' bill behind him and not a thing.... Even a ton of parking tickets and never paid them. Just lucky I guess. Knowing my luck, id test drive 500 yds to the local offie to get some fags and it would get kite sized untaxed stickies plastered all over it and then lifted. Fortunately all is in order, even if it is off the road.... Goodluck.

I'm sure. Police will only impound a car that has no valid insurance, they report you to DVLA for tax offences. DVLA and their contractors can only clamp a parked car, not a moving one. Also, if it gets taxed next week they have lost no duty and it falls within the 14 day grace period for not displaying a disk.
Put it this way, I'd drive it home with no worries at all.

Scary with practical solutions again ! (I would drive it with valid insurance and tax it first opportunity. DVLA enforcement probably don`t work on Sundays anyway)

When I bought the E28 the car was still on a sorn (post office was closed by time deal was done), but I had insurance and the car had mot. I even got stopped by the plod and that was only because Peter James hadnt updated the system. With a quick chat about the niceness of the bimmer and a goodbye I was on the road again.

Should have given you a CLE 2/6 and reported you for fail to display. Not doing his/her job.
