It was a Pontiac I think, he swapped it with Mickey Finn of T-Rex for his Mini-Cooper. I remember reading somewhere that Syd never actually drove it, and after much haranguing from the police he gave it away to a passer-by. There are photos of Syd with the car on the cover of the 'A Nice Pair' album that Harvest Records released in the early 70's (which was a repackage of the first two Floyd albums). The car was the one which featured in the film of Joe Orton's play 'Loot'.
And at the risk of going OT may I congratulate you on your excellent taste in music!! :-)

It's a 59 Pontiac. Dunno which body shape and there's every chance it's one of a few Canadian-built models which used a '59 Chevy dash, Chevy six-pot truck engine and the narrower '59 Chevy chassis, so the wheels were much more inset than the 'proper' US-built models.

Forgot to say that most Canadian-made '59 Pontiacs used the flat-top roofline.

Pink Floyd might appeal to my other 'arf, Toptaff, but I'm more of a Dr Feelgood man. Now they had a few American cars - as all pub rockers should once they're bored of XJ6s!

Yeah, he has a fantastic sense of humour...I've got his 'Inside Out' biography and history of The Floyd as well as the incredible 'Into The Red' book (worth buying if only to hear the incredible V16 BRM on the accompanying CD).

I was just thinking that the one a mate of mine owned ended up in the back of Custom Car for sale last year - it'd been made into a pick-up...

Also pictured on the back of the 2nd solo LP "Barrett", isn't it? What the photo in that PDF doesn't show is the police/council notice slapped on it, proclaiming the car to be "dangerous litter, and will be removed"...
There was also a late '50s sunroof Beetle in the promo film for "Arnold Layne", and the rear sleeve of "Ummagumma" shows the band's Leyland tour van of the time.
