So I just went out into my factory carpark to grab something from my car. I notice a paint scrape/chip on my door. I notice the car next to me has the back of the car full of boxes and my paint on the edge of his rear door! So it seems he let the rear door rest up against my car whilst he loaded boxes into the back of the car and the car suspension must of went up and down because of the weight and scraped off paint off my door. Now its not massive, but its there. Slap bang in the middle of a perfect panel. No dents, just paint loss about an inch high and zigzag across about a cm. Our building staff say its 'park at your own risk' ..fair enough, they did tell me whos car it is though. Now can I or should I do anything? Ask for an apology? Boot his door in? Boot his face in? Ask for insurance details and make a claim? Accept it and walk away? Cheers.

Tell him you know it was his doing and ask if he wants to get it fixed or go through his insurance
We can't just go hiring people's cars and expect nothing to be done about it

As above, and see if he says he'll pay cash. How bad is it?

I could probably live with it. But it would put off future buyers I would say?

Cameraphone then insurance. I'm always amazed at how many people forget to grab pics after something happens to their car.

^^^^ as above making sure to get GOOD pictures of both the damage and your paint on their vehicle, then make sure you get any CCTV before it gets wiped, I would approach the other person to and ask them what they are going to do about it as if they don't offer to sort it themselves you'll put it in the hands of your insurers who will them proceed to screw them good and proper.....

I didnt have my phone with me at the time and I instantly went to the building management with my finding who then spoke with the person concerened. Ive since been out to take some pics - for his car to be moved, and no doubt my paint removed from the corner of his door.
Knowing who it was in my building I sent them an email.
Their response.
Good afternoon Robert. Without prejudice. I can not recall my door touching another vehicle, and with this in mind strongly refute the said allegation. If you wish to pursue this mater further I will contact my insurance company accordingly.

Without pics I don't have a leg to stand on? Only my finding plus visual witness of the building manager..

Bummer, this isn't looking good.
You could advise him that you're passing the allegation, along with your evidence (the details of which you must remain silent on to avoid telling lies), to your insurance company. Suggest that he should not directly contact you again on this matter. A huge bluff is really your only option given the lack of evidence and quick work on his part.

Ive been reading through forums off a google search. Seems I have no chance or choice now anyway... Maybe just a bluff just so he loses a few micro seconds sleep tonight over it.. thats all I can hope for as some kind of compensation.

i would be going to see if theres any cctv in the said carpark and asking for a look at this but also recording it on a mobile(just to be sure you got a copy even if refused to be giving it) if it shows the incedent. also saying that the reason you ask is to clear the matter up without any hassle between work colleages and any bitterness, if he has mentioned insurance also tell them you would rather let the bloke pay less to repair car without letting him pay excess and having a claim against his name which will cost him more in insurance in future years.

Does he work there regularly? Sounds like an excuse for a good swift boot to the rear quarter to me.

My tuppence.
You knew who it was - Why on earth did you send an email?
You should have gone and spoken to him face to face. Most reasonable people wouldn't have done it deliberately - He may even believe he genuinely didn't do any damage to your car (or may not even have noticed his door touch your car?).
If you'd have gone and spoken to him in an adult-to-adult way I believe you would be far more likely to have got the outcome you wanted. People tend to be more reasonable when you take things up to them in a polite, objective matter face-to-face I find - You could have said something along the lines of "sorry mate, I'm not messing about here, come out and take a look for yourself", then shown him the evidence. His reaction to this would tell you all you need to know.
Call me naive but in such situations I always assume people are adults who are on the whole fair, so I treat them as such.
Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear.

There is CCTV on the entrance/exit but not around the whole car park. I don't beleive he works in this building regularly as this is only the second time I have seen the car. I work in a 'put it in writing' environment hence..
I have come to the conclusion and acceptance that I have no leg to stand on and have to accept my new scar.
I did write back though 1001ab advice, if only a bluff.
Your message as predicted. Your car being moved shortly after my message as predicted. I will be passing on my claim, along with my evidence to my insurance company. Please do not contact me again on this matter.

Careful on the camera phone front. If it goes as far as court i seem to recall that cameraphone images can be inadmissable. May be changed days now mind you...
