 hi I'm looking at a rs 2000 twin cam 16 valve engine.just wondering how hard it would be to put in my escort mk2.and what i need ie gear box ect thanks.

It's definitely doable, If I remember right these are developed from the pinto, but there are better engines that are cheaper and have more parts and tuning support with regards to sticking in a Mk2 escort. The usual route is a 2.0 zetec which seems to work well.

they are completely different to the pinto & little is avl re modding.
they are a great eng very torque, i've fitted quite a few 8 & 16v ones in cortinas.
yourbetter starting with a sierra/granada/scorpio eng as there cheaper & all ready rwd use the matching mt75 box & part of prop.get the loom from it too strip the eng part out theres only half doz wires to cut out.
ecu is behind glovebox.
fit a bigger outlet in bottom of your tank & an external efi pump.
a mk3/4 astra rad.

It would but there's probably not much point unless your gonna do a whole lot more tuning and change the ECU.

RS2000 used a 2.0 version of that 16v unit but for more torque there's a 2.3 version in some Galaxy's and Scorpios.
The late Sierras has a twin cam 8v head on a 2.0 pinto, which sounds alright, but aparrently they aren't very tuneable either - everyone seemed to put all the R&D into the Zetec once the pinto was passe.

The late Sierras has a twin cam 8v head on a 2.0 pinto Incorrect I'm afraid, the I4 twin-cam 8valve was a new development and not related to the pinto at all *hint: cosworth 16v was pinto based*  Both the 8valve and the later 16valve engines are good engines and certainly well worth the effort to transplant BUT don't do it expecting an easy ride when it comes to tuning as aftermarket stuff is near enough non-existent  |

If it were me, I would go for either a Zetec (if you really wished to keep a lid on costs you could chuck on a twin choke Weber from an XR2, although I am not sure how it would help your power) on Webers, or a Duratec 2.0. The latter is quite a light engine (thanks to be an all alloy construction) and from the off is said to be a great basis (good head design etc.) but it is also quite a tall engine as a result However, on stock internals they do make over 170BHP fairly comfortably on a decent exhaust manifold and ITBs (can't speak for carbs). They also happen to be very strong engines as long as you stay on top of the oil changes (Some members here may know of a MkIII Mondeo I took to a rather insane mileage with a Duratec 2.0 powering it  . |

instead of a ecu etc you can use a esc engine loom to run it on carbs,.

Are XR2 carbs rated for these sort of conversions? If throwing on a twin-choke Weber from a Ford, I'd have thought the DGAV or DGAS would be plentiful and familiar. |

Hi,
I'm putting the 2.3 version in a Morris minor with a mt75 gearbox from a sierra. I will need to change my flywheel but you should have no problems fitting one if your mechanically minded.

Fitting one is pretty easy, tuning one is not economically viable, its that simple.
If your going to want more power than stock, fit a Zetec, duratec or Cossie 16v depending on your budget if you want to stay with a Ford engine.
Alternatively a 2.3 turbo 740/940 Volvo engine would probably fit, be cheap (whole car is under 500 quid for a taxed and tested one) will have a proper strong 5 speed on it if its a late 940, can make 180 - 190bhp for about 40 quid and 250bhp for another 600 or so. Its already RWD so wont need water rails and extra engine mounts etc etc like a Zetec or Duratec, will already have the right clutch in it and things are the right way round for a rwd car.
Power is never cheap, but if your fitting the Twink cos you think it will be cheap to get more power out of it think again cheapest way to go is almost always to swop in something that already has more power or is easy to tune and a twink isnt, Duratec and zetec tune nicely but both need lots of mods to fit, cossie is just a huge money pit.
don't be frightened to look at engines from other makes.
