JESUS FECKING CHRIST DVLA IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL.
I'm trying to declare my car SORN. I cannot do it on line because I don't have a computerised MOT. Well no sh*t sherlock, I have no MOT at all, thats why I want to SORN the frikkin thing, so I phone the DVLA up on their "helpline" number and its all robots. After 10 minutes of pressing options I get to a voice which tells me to call another number.
So I call that and I've been pushing buttons for ages and still can't find an option to speak to someone.
Oh, my life, just found an option under "I wish to tax my car but cannot find the current MOT" and now I'm in a holding queue.
Jesus it would have been easier to go up the frikkin post office.
OK, been talking to Kirsty at the DVLA while typing this. Apparently I need the V5C to SORN it online or over the phone. WTF? I can do it in the post office with just the reminder why do I need the V5C? I haven;t got it with me. Oh, ring back before 8:30 and we will get it done in 5 working days.
FFS. Its easier to just to tothe feckin post office and queue up with the fraks, eBay sellers, and pee-stained pensioners than to use the automated service. If it even said on the V11 you will need a V5C to do this online I could understand it.
arrrrrrrggghhhhhhhh
I think poor Kirsty just got an earfull. Sorry Kirsty.

Well no sh*t sherlock, I have no MOT at all, thats why I want to SORN the frikkin thing, I have 2 cars and 1 motorbike without MOT and and I've been sorn'g them every year on the internet with no probs at all All you need is the "new style" log book You don't even need a reminder!!! LOL - thats right FFS. Its easier to just to tothe feckin post office and queue up with the fraks, eBay sellers, and pee-stained pensioners than to use the automated service. If it even said on the V11 you will need a V5C to do this online I could understand it. They never got the reminders to print with a ref number but it says on the web site you can do it with the reminder ref number and you can't!!!

If it just said "to SORN it use the V5C" I'd have done that.

If it just said "to SORN it use the V5C" I'd have done that. At least you know now........ You get 28-30 days to do it anyway Well it seems to enable you to back date it as long as you are in the same month as it was due and I've never had a problem doing it in the middle of the month

Handy tip for automated phone thingys.... just hold on without pressing any buttons at all, then the system will assume you haven't got a touch tone phone, and put you through to Kirsty... ;D

JESUS FECKING CHRIST DVLA IS DRIVING ME UP THE WALL. Tell me about it. I got a couple of reminders through the other day so I logged on to pimp my SORN. Page comes up telling me to enter the number on my reminder. I have no number on my reminder. So I have to go dig out the V5's which seemed a stupid inconvenience for me and would have been a pain had the V5's been hidden away somewhere like my parents house. Like anything the public sector does the systems are curse word and communication crapper. I actually cannot tax one of my cars online as the V5 number just wont work.

Tell me about it. I got a couple of reminders through the other day so I logged on to pimp my SORN. Page comes up telling me to enter the number on my reminder. I have no number on my reminder. No one has I think - it's all pete tong as far as that's concerned So I have to go dig out the V5's which seemed a stupid inconvenience for me and would have been a pain had the V5's been hidden away somewhere like my parents house. Like anything the public sector does the systems are curse word and communication crapper. Yep - it'll only get worse I actually cannot tax one of my cars online as the V5 number just wont work. Ahhh - now that's a problem that I have A reminder form I have a computerised MOT A valid V5c My insurance come thro as vaid But I can't tax it Why cos there is a descrepancy between the computerised MOT and the registration document details I had a nice man write to me explaining that something was wrong and would I provide some additional information so they could correct the discrepancy I did it was fairly obvious once you looked at it The guy who entered my chassis number in at the first MOT (Note - first computerised one as it's 22 years old so had a few before) entered it wrongly..... miss read a digit on the VIN plate So I did a pencil rubbing of the VIN plate Stuck a copy of the Log book and the MOT certificate in the post with a nice letter and the form they supplied all filled in and sent it back to them. Guess what - I have been asked to return my log book so they can issue a new one with the correct VIN number on it..... Now that is funny!!!! Needless to say I have written a nice letter along the lines of "Dear Sir I do find it very concerning that you are asking me to return my reg document to be amended to reflect my vehicle X5 XXX correct details. My Reg Document curently says my VIN is XXX000022F1186293 My MOT currently says my VIN is XXX000022F1186298 My VIN Plate is physically stamped XXX000022F1186293 Surely it would be better to amend the MOT certificate with the correct number and leave the records as they are? Awaiting your reply"

Then they send you a letter, to remind you that you declared your car SORN just a month ago. Obviously, I need a reminder to let me know I've already done something ... thats a worthwhile use of resources.

I've managed to tax cars the last two times online with no problem at all and one of them was only covered by my motor trade policy!
