OK, so I'm testing the water for a mate of mine, they guy i share my lockup with has 2 Mk1 Golfs. he wants to sell them and buy something else. I'm trying to find out what they are worth. 1st is a real GTi Campaign with all the right P wheels trim etc, basically sound, slightly rough paint, runs and drives and could probably be put through a test with a weekends fiddling.
2nd is not a GTI but has had the treatment, Gti engine mounting hardware welded into it, overboared and hot Cam in the 1600 lump (rumoured to be around 1700) but needs a top end rebuild. Gti allys etc. Front wings are off and most interior trim out but all there, the shell is totally solid, no rust at all.
I consider the 2nd car to be nicer of the two if you want to build a special of somesort.
Id like people opinions what they are worth, I expect they will be for sale within next month or so. Thanks people :-)

What year/reg are they? Assume the GTI is A-reg '83 if it's a proper Campaign model, what about the other one?
Any pics?

It wont be a Campaign on a Y-reg...
Assuming the second has no T&T, its prob worth £200.

Photos can be arranged, but will be crappy as they are wedged in the back of our unit at the minute.

Yes, doesn't sound like a proper 'Campaign' model I'm afraid so that'll affect the value even though there's very little actual difference in the cars in reality. The Mk1 Owners Club site will tell you if it's a Campaign or not, have a look here: www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7Would be interested in pics of both though as I always like a bit of Mk1 Golf perving

Quad lamps were an optionon all MK1s. usually driving lights, Campaigns had fogs as standard. Campaigns also had green tinted glass. The E in the VIN number represents the year of manufacture as 1984, there are/were DW campaigns apparently.

oh yes the green tinted glass too, and the metal sliding sunroof! But yeah, its only superficial stuff that makes it a campaign!
Your right about the DW on the chassis code too: "and DW chassis cars are illegible for membership providing they exhibit most of the remaining campaign features and have a chassis number higher than 448319"
I didnt get mine cos she was a campaign specifically, just cos she was the nicest one i saw for the money i had, its a bonus for me if i come to sell it with a healthy dose of scene tax applied to her, mwahahaa!

I got one thou I know what they are, I just don't see why they demand the pant wetting they get All those bits were available on other Mk1s and the dimpled door pins came on boggo base spec Mk2s for years. I love Mk1 Golfs and but I'd rather have a nice 1.6 for a grand than pay scene tax on a Campaign. Just seems a bit silly IMHO, although I'm probably equally guilty of the same sort of thing in different circumstances I'm sure ;D ;D

I reckon my old quad lamped, factory sunroofed, a pillar trimmed, black,1.8 non campaign was rarer than any campaign. If i was going to buy another i'd try and find a '77.

deffo! I lurve the small lighted ones, thats what i wanted but couldnt find a decent one so settled for my campaign!
Hopefully the scene tax will work my way if i ever sell her thou!
