were a toned down version of what i said when i flooded the mazda today.
did the cold start up procedure (electrics on, accelerator to the floor and back up again, start engine) when the engine was still warm. it seems to be taking a while to "unflood"
is there a certain way to unflood a rotary or is it a case of leave it a while? it seems to be taking its sweet time! I'm sure its flooded since it stinks of petrol.

Take out the lower spark plugs and crank it for a short period.

Being totally honest I'm not sure if it would be ok to leave overnight and potentially wait for the petrol to dissapate.
Its probably wise to let it drain so the tips aren't sat in a chamber of petrol for any prolonged period.

right. I just read the manual and found something on flooding. it says that I need to put the accelerator to the floor and then try to start it. doesnt bloody work either.

I'm not sure if this helps or not, but some weeks back I flooded the Charmant and it bump started with no bother.

most flooded carb cars should start with 1. no choke 2. foot to the floor to open the butterflys for 100% airflow 3. don't pump the gas just keep turning the key 4. wait for the blowback Might be as well to remove the airfilter... If the plugs got soaked you may need to remove clean and dry them.

corking good show! its fine now!
took the plugs out, "cranked it", put the plugs back in and did the flooded start procedure. then proceded to give it a jolly good hiding to town and back. good times....
there was a lot of smoke. a LOT of smoke....
