Right folks, i'm looking to buy some of the Rat Look Vee Dub boys fav stuff. Found one place on the net that charge 20 quid for the wax & 15 for postage! Here: www.skintaracing.com/shop_viewproduct.asp?itemcode=106Anybody out there know of a cheaper source? My local factors aren't being very helpful! Anyone know if there's a supplier in either Devon or Cornwall?? I need some to coat my rat lookers with............ ;D

Can't help with a southwest based supplier... But I seem to remember when I asked a similar question on here a while back somebody suggested going straight to Millers themselves. The general consensus then decided that 'Collinite' was a much better product. You probably know this but just in case Ankor Wax stays tacky, so anything that touches it gets mucky. Sounds a laugh to start with... Anyway, here's a link. I bought a tub of the stuff they seal the underside of boats with for £20 from them after calling up and having a chat. It doesn't have to give a shiny finish, as if like me you wanted to keep it matt. They might even have a supplier local to you in Cornwall... Still haven't used it at all, as the car is on the road now. I think it was MWF that pointed me in that direction, and I seem to remember MrBo11ox saying he might buy some too, so maybe he's got some experience of it... www.collinite.co.uk/Oh, and I love Deuche and Diane, quality combo right there... Great look, why aren't they slammed? ;D

I bought some of that collinite stuff after MWF's recommendation, it is fantastic stuff in that it is a really good quality hard car wax polish, its meant for shiny paintwork though and you apply it as you would any other car polish... So i don't know if it would be much fun trying to put it on a ratty old clunker with old dull paint. Maybe you could warm it up to soften it a bit like when doing a barbour jacket, that might help.

Aint sure where 16 is Mr B. It was up on the Bay 5 or 6 weeks ago, no docs and a 200 quid start bid. Advertised as a '61 model which it aint - more likely a '65/'66 effort. I stuck a cheeky bid in & was the high bidder for almost 6 days, but being on Jury service as i was, doing my bit to make the streets of Plymouth a safer place, i couldn't be in front of the PC when it was due to end. Luckily my 2cv loving bird was down from Norwich for the week & chucked in a bid at the last minute (without my knowledge) & won it for £360! The vendor had said he'd put 12 months MOT on it as he knew it would pass. This he did indeed do! Went to stay with birds family for Christmas & while i was there arranged to pick the old gal up. Drove from Norwich to Brightlingsea in her old man Rangey with an A frame in the back. Arrived at the guys pub (landlord) and asked him about it. Turns out he'd owned it just over 12 months. He'd spotted it on the driveway of a guy that restores 'vintage' cars just down the road from him - he had driven it back from France a few weeks prior. So he went & made him an offer, the chap accepted & pub bloke takes it for an MOT up the road. 2cv passes, gets driven home and stuck undercover in the yard attached to the pub. Here it sits for the next 14 months as the pub guy can't get on with the gears!!! Having been laid up for 14 months it was reluctant to be woken from it's slumber, so was towed up to the MOT centre where they charged the guy something stoopid like £126 for a 6V battery & a bit of tinkering! It failed it's MOT on binding brakes & a seized wiper motor. Garage rectified that for 60 odd quid - shame the brakes are still binding though! It came with boxes & boxes of spare parts, nearly all for that era of 2cv. the chassis, floor, infact everything are nigh on mint. Even the front wings still wear their original blue paint on the underside!! It's great fun to drive, albeit very slowly. It's only packing a 425cc engine after all! Next job is to get it UK registered, then enjoy!!

Though it may suprise some, an old 2CV like that is on my list of "cars I must own before I die". One like that would be just the ticket ;D

Probably a silly question but I take it the wax is supposed to preserve the paint in it's existing state rather than letting it get weathered/rust any further? Might be good stuff for my old Golf in that case? Does it stop you cleaning it off and polishing/respraying etc in future though? I'm clearly not well up on 'the scene'?
