Gotta say I've been getting funny "Spidey-sense" style tinglings when clapping eyes on tidy Mk3 Fezza XR2i's for some time. They may be a little too closely related to the unforgivably sh*te Mk5 Escort however... I dunno, I'd have to drive one. Yeah, have a go! I find mk3 Fiestas to be far less disappointing than mk5 Escorts, in fact the hunt's on for a 1.1 or 1.3 3-door right now! In fact I would take a scabby mk3 Fez over my old mk6 Escort, which was a high-spec 1.8, and only five years old at the time! I've driven a Mk6 Fiesta (I think it was Mk6... whatever the last ones were with the fish-mouth grille before they brought out the new shape ones), and I was pleasantly surprised. No idea what engine it had as they have no badges except Zetec (1.25? 1.4? I dunno). But it was a pretty nimble little thing. If a Mk3 is anything like that I think I'd be tempted to own one.

SWMBO's a bit of a Fez nut, over the years she's owned a Mk1 1300 Ghia, Mk3 1100 Azure, Mk3 1300LX, Mk4 1400 Ghia and now has an '03-plated 1400 Zetec.
The HCS engines in the Mk3's are OK as long as you don't mind them sounding like a sewing machine....and the 1100 with cat (after Aug 92) is quite unbelieveably slow, the 1300 is much much better, I was quite disappointed when she only kept the 1300 for 5 months and replaced it with a new Ka when they were launched in 1996, I thought the Fezza was a better car. Pick of the bunch for me is the 1400 Zetec fitted in the Mk4, the T-plated Ghia she had was a fantastic car and not that much slower than the 1700 Puma she replaced it with. The current Zetec has the 1400 Duratec in it, handles brilliantly but is gutless unless you wring its neck all the time...not very economical either! There are thousands of Mk3's/4's about though, an early Mk3 with a 1400 Zetec out of a Mk4 would be my choice if I was going down the Lotus-alike route (I think it looks way better on a Mk3 than a Mk1)

No it doesn't work.
Not with the lotus steels. What about a 1600E Mk1 Fiesta with Rostyles, Mk2 Tina rear lights and the round front lights? It would be a mini FWD Mk2 Cortina.

mk3s can look just as good imo, its just that no one trys! I saw one up on Epynt a couple of years ago, just a base model white 1100 slammed with RS/Laser rims and 175/50's and four massive Hellas on the front, and 70's Rord Rallye Sport stickers...not really Retro, but looked as hard as nails IMO ;D

i liked the mk3 version buti prefer the mk1, i agree above above that u need to follow the lines on the car rather than just copy the lotus flash on to it.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Just a couple of thoughts - if Lotus actually did a Fiesta, today, what might they get up to? I suspect it would be more about function in the form of suspension and whatever engine would work well - think Lotus Lada crossed with something from Ford Motorsport perhaps. And the second thought, styling cues from the Lotus Sunbeam and not necessarily the black and silver stripe look. www.alpimodel.com/ixo/rac038.html

Hmmm this is all very inspiring.
I know of someone who was giving a Mk3 fiesta away. We were considering it for James for his first car but I really need to get rid of the Renault 1st.
I think it would be great if he got it!
