Plan is being put into action on a 1969 Riley Kestral and for cheap power I'm going to put a 620Ti motor in it. ;D I will keep you posted on progress when it kicks off. Sounds good, would like to see this. You sized up the t-series motor yet? I'm not trying to pee on your ideas, but its a big engine. quite deep. Kestrel is probably the rarest variation innit? Sure practical classics did a resto a couple of years ago Yes, I've had a tape to it (well, my ADO 16 countryman) but I'm going the full spaceframe route so subframes and inner wings wont be an issue. Kestrals are fairly rare but this one is being saved from the crusher and is fairly non original so I'll be happier chopping that up than my one owner, 33k miles Countryman.

Cool, should go like split sh1t then! You havin a fibreglass flip front? I'm guessing having more than one you're a bit of an ADO16 enthusiast?
Would the lack of interest on the red one be due to it being an estate? It only makes it better in my opinion..

The red one's been on...and on.... and on..... and on for weeks now, not even anyone in the club wants it at any price That one is dodgy to say the least, Bobz. it's a standing joke on the ADO forum isn't it? A traveller ended on the bay today for about £200 I think, it had been stored since 1980 and had a fantastic large yellow National sticker with a Smurf on it on the side window.

It's having a full steel flip front, already got hold of a brand new old stock genuine front panel and wings that have been stored since the early 80's.

All this ADO talk is great, an ex-girlfriend had a countryman and we went to the beach in it when none of our cars were runners. She fell asleep on the way home and we went for a top speed run... I would far prefer one of these to a Mini.
Kyle, I'm taunton based too... The one I'm talking about was beige and used to live around the Cheddon Road area. Years ago, but worth mentioning as you're local ;D

Found my countryman in Exeter, it never even went as far as Cullompton until I got my paws on it. ;D Just out of interest Bryn, did you buy a Chevette from Sureflow engineering on Norton trading estate a few years back?

I didn't buy a Chevette from there... But I did come over once to take some pictures for Redline Mag of the imports. Plus my mate Graham worked there too... It's just clicked who you are I think! Plus I used to keep my Standard Estate and Mk1 Transit in the back of the wooden buildings place that was the other end of the units. I remember kicking myself when I saw your car featured in Miniworld, as I do some work for Mini Mag and shamed myself by not knowing you were in Taunton!

Because the hubs stick out 10 foot from the side of the car theyr'e a curse word to get alloy rims for. Any nice period ones get snapped up for big money on ebay, usually by BMCSid. Or Sid Porsche as he's known on the bay. As for pics of the build, they will be posted up during progress. i've got a few other things on the go at the moment and I've just got a Townace to slam into the weeds for a laugh so the Kestral will be a bit longer term. End of the year it should be on it's way if not finished though.

Yeah right, those units are great aren't they? Yeah, the P6 convertible up at Fritzs was mine... The 'slipper' as it was affectionately known. Although convertible is stretching it a bit really... Skip to bucket was more like it. ;D

ado 16's fun with a capital F ;D ive had a couple best description i can give is a mini thats been blown up properly seriously though IMO thieve got all the fun/good points of a mini but with loads of interior space. the only thing to watch out for is the dreaded tin worm, bottom of bulkhead front floor pans under rear seat and rear subframe and mounts, front wings and front panel can be awkward to get also. also wheels are a pain, though allegro steels fit for 13inch ness *scurries off to look for photo album*

114.3? Big offset? I feel some Modern J-rims might fit the bill?
Black/silver wheels are very current, so finding a set should be relatively simple...especially as Honda/Nissan/Suzuki/Rover have used 114.3 on some of their newer cars.

These rock. I am pleased they are well recieved here as for years and years I've been telling people how cool these cars are and getting looked at like I'm mad.
I have been thining a VTEC powered one would rock for a while. Is that "modified" (or almost scratch built!) subframe going to be available commercially?
Early one in red for the total Fawlty Towers win.

My question is, why has no one stuck a huge fwd engine in the back of one of these?

Awww, this takes me back, and makes me feel old I had a 2 door Austin 1100 about 20 years ago, my third car. I'll have to dig around for some old fashioned photos, and scan them in! Great fun to drive, you could get a nice bit of drift going with a good flick... ;D Unfortunately it succumbed to the tin worm , and became my first banger racer I think it managed a couple of laps before being unceremoniously dumped on its side, trashing the gear linkage I moved on to a Maxi, thinking it would be more of the same, but it wasn't really as much fun...

Glad to see i'm not the ony one with enthusiasm for this idea! It could be damn cool. If the offset/arches thing is a problem, how about using mini style arches and trimming the original arches underneath? Or is that a bit too "butchery" style?
