Ah, that brings back memories. I had a two door Mk1 Jetta but one I made from a four door. I used Mk1 Golf 2dr doors and grafted in the rear side window surrounds and 1/4's. It was much, much harder than I thought it would be but I persevered and did it anyway. This is one of the few pics I have of it... It had a golf front end too. Sadly it's long gone. I sold it after which it got vandalised I think, then scrapped Shame...

Mr Ratdat I salute you!! Thats a great achievement and way ahead of its time. Not sure if you read about it but 1552 a US bodyshop did the same thing with a MkIV Bora / Golf to make a coupe. They would have asked for some help if they'd have known!! www.vwvortex.com/resources/project_cars/projectx/index.html

Raddat, there must have been some serious graft put into your Jetta - its a shame you don't have any clearer pictures?

They're right, that Jetta sounds like it was some car by the way RatDat! Someone give that man a cigar!! ;D ;D ;D There's a 4 door Jetta not far from me that I've always thought needs the GTi treatment, it looks a bit sad with its grotty maroon paint and modern chavvy alloys. A rear wheel drive one would be well cool, although I saw one of those mk 4 Golf R32 4motion things yesterday that had been vandalised and was on a trailer being hauled away, and though to myself that a 4x4 mk 1 2 door Jetta or Golf would be well cool! Of course that would involve some serious fabrication, new transmission tunnel, bulkhead etc wouldn't it?

I love that Bora Coupe.... As for 4x4 Mk1's.... there's a red one running 1.8T and Syncro in a Driver shell... proper sleeper... runs 12's I think!

Damn, that's near to what I had planned for mine. I'll dig out the original sketch I did an scan it. Only difference on mine was I planned to replace the entire roof with a flat panel.
I found a couple of other pics of my Jetta but neiher are very good. I'll scan them anyway though.
