last car for me -- for 2006 ;D i could not let this one go to the scrapeyard; it is a 1983 2-door Jetta Mk.I... looks a bit rough, but the shell is sound. It has a 1,5l carbed engine, but this will have to go and make room for a Scirocco Mk.II engine and box... this will be my daily driver for next year... then i was visiting my friend KLE from fusseltuning.de in his new workshop : this is a 1973 Passat Mk.I which was standing in a yard for 28 years. He got it for free, the very early Passats have some parts which are different from the 74 onwards models (gearbox, windscreen etc.), so this was a bargain, even if he had to travel round germany to pick it up... One of his next projects, a Framo (east german manufacturer) , plans are to hot-rod it and fit Ford Taunus V6 engine and axles... Emma, a Kadett B, which will be repaired soon, it had a huge accident damage at the front... another look at the Passat. There were brand new wheel arches in the car, which had huge holes inside, as there was a lot of water oin the car. In fact the repair panels in the car were worse than the arches on the car.... so the year ended good; and the new year already started good....

That 2 door Jetta looks really sweet - I bet it'll make a great looking car (already is, really!)
Any plans in particular for the looks or just going to be clean and mean?
Rest of the photos are ace, nice mix of cars! ;D

Jetta looks great, I wish we'd had those in the UK!! 2-door cars seem a lot more poular in mainland Europe, you guys could have had a 2-door Ford Orion if I remember.
I remember the Passat being launched over here in about '74.....my uncle had one from Orr Tookey in Stratford (long-gone VW dealer) for a couple of days but decided that while it was a brilliant car, it was too big for his Driving School. That one's VERY rusty though!

thanks for the nice comments.... funny, after not having seen a Mk.I for ages, a couple of days before i picked it up i saw two of them, 2doors of course, though they are rare here these days, too. So that mus have been a sign... ;D My plans are to keep it slightly original, give it a T-Cut , lower it and put some nice wheels on it... probably these ones : but that depends on the donor Scirocco, as i don't have it yet... plans are to take all the mechanical parts from the Scirocco (5-speed gearbox, power steering, catalytic converter, suspension etc.); this is the easiest way to get the engine conversion through the TÜV... also there is no interior in the Jetta, so i have to find something. The car was for free, a good friend of me gave it to me, he used it as a spares car, he also gave me a very nice period steering wheel, i can't show you a picture of this, as i forgot to take it home . The Jetta has been off the road since 2000, and was stored dry, this explains the good condition of the shell. I want to have this car as a daily driver, as the Type 25 needs a technical update also as some work on the body. And it is not very nice to drive it in winter ;D The passat is really rusty, when KLE wanted to put it on the trailer, the rear axle mounts left the body... the wheels didn't turn, as the tires are also rotten, the tires turned on the rim... and the engine is seized, i lost a bet, that it would run ;D

Two-door Mk1 Jetta's are ace, I'd love one. I remember seeing a lovely white GLi one parked in the car park at the AutoStadt when I visited Wolfsburg, have a pic somewhere if I can find it.
Looks like a good purchase MrJ! Gold wheels will look a treat on there! ;D
