I agree briandamaged ! Back in the day .....when American Graffitti came out ,and street draggin' took a hold in UK ,there was a road on a part built estate ,think it was called Tollgate rd ,in Becton ,east London ,it was very straight ,with low railings either side ,just like a drag strip !,about 50 cars would gather there at a set time on a Friday night ,! Cars were parked across the road to prevent its use ,and cars would line up to run over a measured 1/4 mile . The action really hotted up when a trailered, full on Camaro Drag car turned up to run ! The plod would arrive ,everyone would scuttle off to McD's ,and go back when the coast was clear ! All very dangerous ,but back then us lot thought we were immortal !!! Oh Happy Days

Oh Happy Days Think I came to it a little later than that, but I have to thank Worcestershire County Council for building Bromsgrove Eastern Bypass in 1981/2 with two sets of traffic lights in each direction, and a nice big island at each end so that we could keep an eye out for Plod. Friday and Saturday nights were a virtual free-for-all, it was as much fun to park up and watch as it was to participate........  Of course it couldn't last, and they built filter lanes on two of them once they'd realised their mistake.... The Redditch Street Racers, happy memories!!! ;D |

Only street racing i`ve seen is in downtown Trondheim, really fast `Scrote Cossie vs. Very fast Brick (or volvo 242 if you want) And lots of others, including 125cc tuned up vespa scooter vs. 1.3 Opel Corsa B ;D makes me think, everytime i pass it, the local railroad station loading area always has flat and newish tarmac, and its pretty wide and long, and not closed off.. Hmmmmm... |

theres a bit of street racing on a local inductrial estate near me, a counciler is trying to get the police to let it happn as its a pretty safe area for it to go on, not sure if hes having much look tho. its all corsa's and chavs anyway so never go to watch. would love to take a bike engined mini down and open a can of whoop ass
