I have been in contact with a company in Tokyo who will ship cars for 100,000 yen over the asking price from Yahoo Japan auctions. I am waiting for an email explaining exactly how this works and who pays who and when. I'll post once I find out. I also use www.idirect.com and I've paid them a large wad of cash for a working account to bid for cars (in five months I've bid on about 25 cars and not won a single one!). A lot of very small cars come up on Idirect - especially 90s vintage. Idirect's premium is a handling charge and the shipping charge so any bid you make includes the cost to get the car here. They're on holiday at the moment and closed til the 5th of Jan or so. Charlie PS. I managed a drift like that in my wife's Daihatsu Charade 1.3 GLXi the other day round a long sweeping bend in Kingston.

I love that video, I've never been able to find out what it was off exactly. They're the Subaru Rex which is pretty rare now so I bet that's off a pretty old video!
While we're doing Kei vids I'll dig up my favourite one as I've uploaded a few myself! Suzuki Alto Works RS/Z in-car:
For Kei cars in general, your best bet is to check eBay frequently. Also in my experience auctions for things like the Mira Avanzato never run to the end, so ask them if they'll end early for cash because demand far outweighs supply!
Anyone have any Kei questions, ask them here, though for interest I'll do a "FAQ" below.....
Frequently Asked Questions about Kei-cars Q. What sports Kei-cars are in the UK? A. Daihatsu Cuore (Mira) TR-XX Avanzato R4 (88), Daihatsu Mira Classic Turbo 4WD (50), Suzuki Cappuccino (2000 odd), Daihatsu Copen (loads) were all imported officially. There's also the Honda Beat (few dozen), Suzuki Alto Works (at least 2) and someone spotted either a Daihatsu Move SR-XX or Suzuki WagonR RR whizzing round. Probably others too.
Q. I'm 12 foot tall and as wide as a shed, can I fit in a Kei-car? A. Probably not, but you'd be surprised how big the hatchback ones are inside as they tend to have wafer thin doors, small dashboards, high roof etc. The rule of thumb with hatchbacks, if you could comfortably fit in a Corsa you'd be fine in a Mira or Alto. For the little convertibles they usually say if you're much taller than 6 foot it may be trouble.
Q. How fast are they? A. If they've a turbo, usually about 0-60 in 8-9 seconds, top speed 100-110mph. They usually have super short gearing so 0-30 is ludicrously fast in nearly all turbo Keis. Always have 64hp officially but often a little bit more. Nearly all FWD ones are also offered in 4WD, there's a 10-20kg weight penalty but they have better acceleration off the line so it's all what you prefer to be honest. They always rev high too, usually about 8000-9000rpm!
Q. Can they be tuned up well? A. Turbo ones respond extremely well to tuning as they're deliberately restricted to the 64hp figure. Exhaust, filter and increase in boost (with appropriate fuelling and decent intercooler) will see them to 100hp no problem. If you go into the world of bigger turbos and massive intercoolers 150hp isn't a daft figure either. If you spend a lot of money, you can get 200hp but it'd not be friendly to drive!
