thats right the car started and was first registered in Abberdeen it has now made it to the other end of the country in north devon! i don't have a list of previous owners but i think i have seen that name on a reciept and the only reciept i have which was for two new tyres balanced for £28.
Working in Alberta to start with but have moved now to Brandon in Manitoba just finishing up some late seeding. weathers getting cold now!

So we don't have a lot to do here, its -5c where i am so i thought i'd wack up some pics of the viv and what was done before i left for Canada in July. so like i said before the head gasket blew between 3 and 4 making a nasty tapping sound and down on power. the old man has a sparkplug that he has cut and drilled out and welded on an airline connector. take the spark plug out screw it in and hook up the airline and turn the engine by hand so that when the correct valves are open you can hear air leaking. when both intake and exhaust valves were shut on cylinder three i could hear air leaking into the exhaust. confused me for a bit until i saw that number 4 cylinders exhaust valve was open hence it transferring from cyl 3 to number 4. word of advise if anyone does the same to check a head gasket leak, use a regulator on the airline otherwise your compressor will end up turning the engine over for you screwing you up... trust me. pretty simple way to check it is a head gasket problem only takes an hour but could save you doing a pointless head rebuild although its not a hard job!
broken gasket
had the head skimmed a couple thou and the guy also recut the valves and valve seats did think about converting to an unleaded head but in all honesty this engine only needed to do another couple thousand miles so i thought i may aswell live with the headache of additive. dad said i would only notice problems not using additive after 50,000 miles but i thought the engine is sweet so i may aswell keep it that way
cut valves
worked on the holes on the clips that held in the chrome trim on the back too. rollin resto! don't worry its not staying like it, just a quick cover to stop rust and looks better than primer im sat here right now itching to work on her, only 3500 miles is seperating that from happening. have got lots of ideas for when i get home. scored a new dash and full set of black door cards on ebay the other day. part of me wants to swap the engine first off. the other part of me wants to gut the car get the front wings off and shot blast the underside and stonechip her then build it. my initial idea is to keep as a little sleeper so i guess the paint work might give it away if it looks to fresh. went to an auto store and found these so i can make my custom dash. didnt want to buy stuff on ebay like this as i like to see what I'm buying before i buy it so i know i can get them all to match. NAPA didnt have a speedo one the same so i looked up about the ones i had and found the NAPA in North Dakota 100miles south in the US had one so I'm going to pick that up at some point this week i hope.

oh and i went to a Store called Princess Auto and bought a couple of bargains a master bit set for $12 and some agricultural tyre plugs for $5 exchange rate is pretty well in my favour to but tools and parts out here to. looked at weber carbs brand new IDAs and IDFs for $290 which is about £200 instead of £550 figuers i keep seeing... ahh i do love it her but driving is hellish boring, straight long roads with nothing but fence posts and powerlines to look at. is pretty good though when it comes to 1 hours drive is actually 75 miles get so much further without the traffic at home!

Home after 32 hours and over priced airport beer but its good to be back! Dug the engine out and started work to check all is ok, split the engine and trans to check the clutch which looks newish and also to check the core plugs that are found behind the flywheel. all looking good so far just rigging it up to run with a radiator to make sure its not using water and also so i can keep it running. it ran but wouldnt idle so I'm going to strip the carb tommorrow and unblock the idle jets as i think this is the problem. hopefully tommorrow will be a good day. once thats done i need to help the old man gut the workshop out so we can do the festive floor painting operation for the new year. Also bought a 1500 tdi clio for 200 quids which needs a new engine which i have ready to go. once this is done the viva project will be under way as its my daily until the clio is running... never simple!

Been a busy and long couple of months for me getting back into the work routine and adapting back to uk weather. Heres an update for you lovely people! The Viva now holds a 13b rotary on its own mounts! heres the old 1256 13b ready to go in it went in really easy unsuprisingly. removed the old engine mounts from the front crossmember and it practically fell in next was to invent a way to hold it in place as the engine mounts from the front originally thats the route i would follow. got a piece of 6mm place cut and bent to match the existing engine mounts. then made the overal width of it to 720mm to stretch from one chassis leg to the other. got my measurements right! then hung some plates of the top of the chassis legs to connect to the new crossmember and welded it on after the engine was squared up and sat in the right place then bolted it down! now to make a prop! cheers all

hey yall finished off the exhaust after burnt sleeves endless cutting, grinding, swearing etc all fun and games... nothing smart but I'm happy with it feels good to get that bit out of the way. working progress on the oil cooler going to finish that off in the next couple of evenings and then adapt the clutch cable to replace a hydraulic system. been playing with props too but have decided to get one made from scratch for safety aspects and peace of mind. i wouldnt have made one anyways but wanted to see if i could adapt a transit split prop with an rx7 prop. shall see what march brings i kinda want it running in two weeks so i can strip it down and get it paint ready by april... time will tell until then it will be more tea drinking, crappy drawings and ideas! How she currently looks Found a nasty ass repair on the front too! Cut it out and spotted a plate in there Got a bit to straighten out on the back, the bit where the bonnet sits in the wing needs some attention and the dreaded rear arch. Wish me luck

Well after what seemed like a thousand hours of work we got the arch made and on. Dad seemed happy to do it saying something about "takes me back 25 years!". Action shot! Dad did his bit I gave him some beer and he went home a happy man! Now down to me to lead it up, fill it and shape to make the arch curve Needs a little more work to finish it but it feels good to have it done to this point! Got to try out my new hvlp gun the other day so I primed the doors to see what it was like And after weeks of chasing the guy my prop has showed up It's a split prop so I now need to jig it up on the car and mount the centre bearing Another couple of days of bodywork and get it into paint once the engine is running and drive able.

Great project, love to see a rotary in anything.
Just a note, I too had to use tight bends on a rotary exhaust and it lays a few weeks before sagging and cracking. Rotarys run very hot exhaust gasses and long primaries with sweeping bends can develop more power. Tight bends glow very quickly.
Still good body work as well, keep going

Wow! This is looking awesome- good paint job man. I love the black roof and I love the standard 1300 badge. I found and put a 1.2 badge on the chevette we 12a'd - keeps them guessing... :-)
