I was walking along a riverbank today (as you do) and something in the water caught my eye. Unbelievably (me being a VW nut) it was a carburettor from an aircooled VW engine There was some other retro stuff as well includine a wolsley(?) cap; And what I remember being fitted to every Datsun in the early eighties; Other spots were rear axles, citroen 3 bolt wheels, exhausts and other assorted car parts. I really cant get over tripping over a VW carb but, need to go down with waders and see if I can find the rest of the car . Dave.

Thats fantastic!,I'll bet Tony Robinson and the rest of the Time team crew would just love to come and dig up your river and look for signs of early 1980's civilisation. It's almost like a scene from mad max ..... In our rivers we only have mud and boats and Fish, really boring stuff. ;D ;D ;D

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

That was an unusual find! I only hope you don't find any drivers of those cars in the river!

was that really a river bank or a garbage dump with water in it?,seems like a lot of building stuff mixed up with gravel and other stuff.I hope you took "hazard awareness measures" as per EU directives.

Great finds I found these a few years back whilst out on my bike... Mitsubushi Colt ^^ Can't quite remember, may have been an 80's Rover 216 ^^Transit I think there was a Mk1 Fiesta in there somewhere to but it's been a while since I've been over that way.

Deffinately a river bank. Everything I spotter was under this bridge. I thought about taking the carb home but had no plastic bags and I wasnt putting it in my pocket. Might go back but as I was doing some research last night and some of the bricks are rare and valuable to some collectors it would seem.

I remember seeing a mk5 cortina saloon somewhere in darkest Dorset (totally forget where) It had crashed off an A road in the middle of nowhere, plunged down a very steep bank towards a river and ended up wedged against a tree after obviously rolling several times about 75ft down. It looked like it had been there for many years as there was moss growing out of the seats and small trees were growing out of the floor. Really weird!! It was too difficult to get to because of the steepness of the bank it was on and you could only really see if if you were lucky to look in exactly the right place. don't know if there was any skeletons inside it, maybe I was the only person to know about it!
Keeping on the cortina theme legend has it that in Barrow in Furness theres a bricked up store room that used to be part of a warehouse with a cortina abandoned inside it. Been there atleast 10 years and it was heavily vandalised by local kids before it was cocooned by developers. Its near KFC if anyone knows the area.
